Rush/Lusk supposed to go live next Wed. Anyone got an installation date yet?

No the only contact here from eircom is the bill. It looks like they really want to sell efibre

From what I can see the cab opposite the Michael Collins pub in Rush
has never been upgraded so I suppose that'll have to be done first?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Neil_Sedaka

I have the following info on good authority:

One more cab to be done in rush, opp the Michael Collins pub - should be done in the next week.

In lusk only 3 cabs to be done, at the Top Shop and 2 in new lusk village which will be done within 2 weeks or so.

    HTH

Can anyone offer some detail on eircom POV on distance from cabinet.
    I am 1.54km from cabinet.

    Is eFibre an option?
    What speed expected?
    (anything better than current 1.5Mb)
    Will they connect me?

bad news on that one, afaik they wont connect you if you are over 1km from the cabinet at the moment

I placed an order with Vodafone for Fibre today. They said that the max speed Rush exchange is can provide to the cabinets is 50mb. They guy said that across Ireland some exchanges got the 70mb equipment, some got the 50mb.

anyone else hear anything like this?

BTW, the package is 'Vodafone Simply Broadband Max' which is up to 70mb with unlimited download but without phoneline.

same in Lusk, they can only offer 50meg

I rang three providers and got the same answer of 50meg only

its hard to not be a little bit annoyed..., but hey, 50mb is still a huge increase on the old DSL speeds in the area

    Anyone over 1km?

good point kingtiger on the upload speed.

BTW, got an engineer appointment for Monday morning, so the cabinets must be live now.
I'm <300m from the cabinet so hoping for close to 50mbit

Hurrah - the wait is nearly over

some areas serviced from the Finglas exchange were ready for order today -

I am in the south east corner of the exchange area and have an appointment for Wednesday September 2 - I could get 50 or 70Mbps and opted for 50Mbps on basis of my requirement and cost saving.

I placed the order during a very efficient call - I was assured the technician would come as arranged and would contact me in advance to confirm.
New mandatory terms - new account number because eircom are using a new ICT system, direct debit monthly instead of 2 monthly, new 18 month contract replacing the 2 week old 12 month contract (I had ADSL BB installed when I moved into the house 2 weeks ago).

I'll post an update after the installation.

What are you going to get for upload on the 50M package?

    Lambay View, Rush.

This is a web chat result.....
" I have looked into your address in detail and at the moment your area exchange has Efibre but you cabinet doesn't have Efibre available it is hopefully going to be in your address around the start of 2014"
    :-(

Seems there is something up with Rush
I have order efibre as it said it was available.
1st order got lost, even though i had a order number. waited 1 week for installation date, then was told there was no order.
    ANyway, ordered again,
THen they said they can't give me an appointment date. Got escalated. Still nothing, no word on appointments date, was told its gone to technical team.

I'm 150m from cab in Rush.

    I'll keep you all posted.

Sometimes you wish 10below was back.

Just spoke to Eircom about fibre in the Kelly's Bay area in Skerries. I asked about the fibre rollout in Skerries, he said:

"the area is, however not your local cabinet. Possibly late 2013."

So our local cab is not part of the impending rollout? ****e :(

I miss you already mega UPC broadband...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Neil_Sedaka

Not looking too good for a lot of us!

Personally I'm not that bothered, as my contract with eircom doesn't run out till mid October.
I'll be shopping around then for the best deal.

I have decided not to take eircom up on their free upgrade.
My bills are higher since switching back to them last October.

Got a letter from Eircom there during the week telling me that they were changing the name of my current package but the package itself won't change in any way. And also that efibre is now available in my area and to call a 1800 number to order.

Proceeded to do so and was told my line wasn't upgraded yet and that it's estimate was July-September. Kind of figured this would be the case since I hadn't seen any changes to the cab situation.

Don't really see why they screw over certain areas especially having sent me a letter. Maybe just to mock me? :P

I was really hoping to have the fibre set up before the next generation of games consoles launch but it's looking like that isn't likely. Haven't seen any engineers around the town to ask in ages.
