full back williams in with the elbow on nacewa there on the kick through.

Really dislike that guy, never stops whinging, and pretty dirty.

Fantastic steal from Heaslip there and clever little kick from Sexton.

You can't go off your feet on top of him. At no point did Nacewa leave his feet. Awful call.

remember this is the ref that did Munster/racing. Im surprised there hasnt been even more worse calls so far

Sexton is playing an absolute master class. He is tormenting the Scarlett's.

This will be a bonus point win for Leinster.

Refs are really gonna have to start penalising players for throwing and kicking the ball away. Its being done way too often these days without repercussion.

This 19yo TH looks completely out of his depth, and the ref is letting him away with murder

That It think was in retaliation for Nacewa's choke hold on the scrum half which was a high tackle even if it wasnt a penalty for not letting him get up. Still not acceptable, but more understandable.

    The ref here is terrible.

Heaslip is like bloody action man out there. He's everywhere.

I think you do have to let them get up, but they also have to make an effort to get up immediatly, cant lie there waiting for you to infringe

I don't know about that, Leinster are still lacking that bit of sharpness required to capitalise on their chances.

Heaslip wins terrible lineout break to halfway. Away fans vocal

    14.2 PLAYERS ON THEIR FEET
    (a) Falling over the player on the ground with the ball. A player must not intentionally fall on or over a player with the ball who is lying on the ground.
    Sanction: Penalty kick

George North is having a howler of a game.

Needless from Madigan. Had time to glance at the runners.

Surely Leinster should have had advantage there?

Number 3 clearly sealing off at that ruck, plain as day and no penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭wicklowwonder

Still sloppy play from Leinster. George North having a howler!! Thinks he is a much better player that he is.

    Next score vital.

That's the type of game he plays. Don't think North is cocky at all really.

Now Williams at 15 on the other hand....

Great defence and work in the breakdown. The whole team has been super.

Ref waited long enough to give it! Bit of a mad performance from him.

Jenno, McLaughlin, Heaslip and Ross have been very good.

Trying take on the whole Leinster defence on his own.

Trying take on the whole Leinster defence on his own.

don't see how that makes him "not as good as he thinks he is"

He's probably the most effective ball carrying wing on the planet, that's his job

In which case, how exactly do you tackle a player on the ground?

15.3 BROUGHT TO THE GROUND DEFINED

    (a) If the ball carrier has one knee or both knees on the ground, that player has been ‘brought to ground’.and when that player is tackled you must then release them immediatly,

    (b) If the ball carrier is sitting on the ground, or on top of another player on the ground the ball carrier has been ‘brought to ground’.

In order to satisfy that definition, the ball carrier must have both knee off the ground in order to be legally tackled.
Aka, you must let them get up onto their feet.

You don't. Player on his feet has all rights to the ball though so player on the ground has to release it.

If he had of off loaded was the potential to have men over. Also there was no way he would ever think an outhalf would kick a ball on top of him for the try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Tomtom364

    Incorrect.

    (a) A player with the ball must immediately do one of three things:
    • Get up with the ball
    • Pass the ball
    • Release the ball.

The player on the floor has options, he dosnt HAVE to realease untill an opposition player attempts to play the ball.
obviously in this case the ball carrier chooses to try get up.
So the opposition player will go to tackle him, but in order to satisfy the rules defining tackles, the ball carrier must be taken down to his knees which means he is required to be on his feet at the beginning of the tackle.

You said it yourself, player on his feet has the right to play the ball, not the player, so he must allow the player to get up if the player has begun to attempt to get up

EDIT: might i suggest taking this to the laws thread instead of the match thread?

Next score vital big 40-60 min to put it beyond doubt hopefully

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭wicklowwonder

We had two knock ons in their 22 when we looked like we were about to go through their line. It is frustrating, we just need those balls to stick. If we get another try in the first five mins we will hopefully click and get the bonus!

I'll disagree. You don't tackle a player on the ground as they're on the ground so it's not necessary. You can grab a hold of them though, drag them to their feet or into touch etc. I'm sure we've all seen a player dragged into touch on countless occasions.
