Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Women's Periods Dont Hurt

New studies suggest that cramping due to the female mentrual cycle is nothing more than a "placebo-like effect".
Prof. Robert Austin from the Department of Biology in The Boston College, Boston, MA. may be about to single-handedly put an end to the popular complaint women have during their monthly menstrual cycle.

The common conception (no pun-intended) women have regarding their cramps is that It could be because you have higher levels of prostaglandins which make the muscles in your womb (uterus) contract harder or faster. Or because the blood supply to your womb (uterus) decreases during the contractions so there's less oxygen reaching this part of your body, making the muscles cramp even more.

During the three-year-long study, however (to be published in next month's Health Journal)Prof. Austin apparently discovered a mysterious unknown hormone which is now being linked to having a "placebo-like-effect" on the brain.
Which means that women are not actually experiencing pain and discomfort, rather they are experiencing the placebo effect. They "feel" pain because they believe that pain is to be expected with their period.

Prof. Austin will be releasing his new found results next month. This will once and for all end men's monthly missery.

Must be a pretty good placebo effect to bring me to the point of almost fainting on more than one occasion.

Just as I suspected. The basis of the word hysterical explains all

Ah yeah but everybody knows that women will be quite biased when it comes to this kind of research.

I would love to see Prof. Austin explain this to my ladyfriend.

Punch him in the stomach and tell him he's not really experiencing pain, he's just imagining it...

I dunno about others but my cramps can happen at any time up to and during my period. I don't just go, "oh, I've my period! Must start cramping now..."

In my experience it hurts both women and their partners.

So Prof. Robert Austin claims a woman's period pain doesn't exist. What next? Will Mrs Austin claim that men's 'morn horn' is only an illusion?

Tell that to my ovarian cysts.

Even if it's just the stress or whatever causing the muscles to contract faster, that in turn causes pain so either way, it hurts.

Yeah it's all an act. I dont get cramps so bad i want to die. The pain in my lower back is also put on. I do it all for attention.

The feeling that someone is using my ovaries as a stress ball is totally in my head. And sure i stick fake spots on my face at that time of the month too just for the craic.

Whoops, just read the last line.

I guess that shows just how many of us read the first part and saw red (no pun intended).

Prof. Joe, of Boards University, is going to conduct a study about how more than 97% of AH users don't fully read any post, and that more than 89% do not know Google exists.

The only way you're getting of of being branded a troll is by PMing me a link to this "study"
