What happens if 700k refuse to fill-in and return the forms?
How do the Revenue know who to prosecute?

He certainly seems to have a penchant for revenue. Im not sure if it is the word, or the department he loves.

just thinking. one of the most convincing pro-tax arguments here was that wealthy people who dont pay any income tax, would be caught in the property tax net . if they dont pay tax how is the revenue going to bill them?

Jesus Phil, this plan had more holes in it than than a hedgehogs mattress...

Yes, make 1,000 struggling people poorer, to get some tax of 1 rich person, which would be a comfort to the 1000 of course. That would seem an analogy close to that line of thinking.

A bit like the argument for not increasing the corporate tax i.e. the businesses will leave Ireland.
Will they leave if they have to pay Water charges for their businesses too?
OR will they be exempt for that reason too?

    Mind-boggling stuff ahead i'd say.

The Gardai knocking a bit of sense into a few protesters is evidence of the success of the campaign now? Lol.

So you are in agreement with this?

a small minority diagree on principle.

This is fcuking priceless. You think that a small minority disagree on principle to an unjust law that takes money from people, for the purpose of paying the debts of other people?

Its a balancing out of the garda bashing posts often seen.

A "getting bashed by the gardi" post.

FFS a new opinion poll has FF two points ahead of FG on 27%.

FG must be making a complete balls of the country to be behind that shower.
Huge FAIL for Enda and his crew. Ship sinking fast and no lifeboats.

New opinion poll out and Fianna Fail are still rising, I bet a large part of it is due to Fianna Fail opposing a family home tax-if fine gael/labour push ahead with the family home tax/ all they re doing in the longer run of things is givign Fianna Fail a platform to run on the basis of vote Fianna Fail/abolosh family home taxes and I can see Fianna Fail getting over with the people on that basis and the only people to blame for it will be the posters on here who support implementing the family home tax.

This must be a contender for the craziest post ever on boards.

No harm in some robust law enforcement. I look forward to seeing some in the area of tax enforcement.

What do the latest polls tell you DV?
    Does public opinion not mater?
Imagine FF being higher than FG after all their crookery.

    That populism sells.

What the latest poll tells us is that there is no real alternatives.
Do you have FG or FF - that's the only choice we have in Irish politics.
We gave the Green party a chance - they made an arse of it, we gave Labour a chance, they are making a bigger arsé
    of it.
What now? Sinn Fein? Is Ireland really ready for that? Independent alliance?

Also now that the property tax is law, no future government is going to repeal it, it's easy money.

Has to be a big shock though.
Too much austerity too soon is killing them i'd say.

Not at all. Its in line with the other poll that was published last week.

The next election isn't for a few years anyway.

After the Prom deal I don't think they expected it but the people are very angry.
They need a re-shuffle I think. Shatter and Reilly need to go. They are doing very poorly and alienating people.

I don't expect the Revenue to turn the country around - just catch a few more scumbags.

People who didnt pay the property charge are scum bags now? Did you reprogram the tax evaders key today?

They are all evaders; some evaders are scumbags.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,920 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Many would say that people forcing an unfair and unjust tax on a family home are scumbags in fairness.
It's a bit like the old protection rackets. Pay up or else.

Some compliant are scum bags too, so the relevance (between home tax non payers and scum bags) possibly only exists in the minds of idiots, although this is the first time I seen such a connection made.
