Removing old skim from wall?

Using a steamer to remove layers of wallpaper from a wall, some of the plaster/skim (?) separated from the wall.
Have decided to remove it altogether. Some of it lifts easily, but most of it is proving difficult to remove.
    Any tips?

    Hi
Has a lot of the skim come away from the wall. If not it may be easier to reskim the areas where the skim has come away.

Thanks, that makes the best sense.
Unfortunately, I'd already started taking it off, in patches, about 1/5 wall done, and it's an awful mess.
