Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, After reading other threads where people are finding it hard to make ends meet, I thought I'd start a thread looking for hints and tips on how to make the money go further.
I'll start with cooking more than one dish at a time and make casseroles big enough to do two or more days. Use old veg to make a nourishing soup. If you make too much, it freezes good.

Instead of paying for a two-week package holiday, go for a one-week option instead and just don't go to bed....twice the time, half the price

Save on bog roll by washing your bum with soap. Eat out of bins, walk everywhere and wear the same clothes every day. You will die rich. Your money will go to someone who knows how to enjoy it, usually involving coke and hookers. You will try to turn in your grave, but because you were so mean, it will be the small plot and there will not be room enough. Eternal frustration ensues.

..or steal it to feed your poor kids even when you can afford gym membership, car etc...

A lot of people are looking at this all wrong. The idea behind 'moneysaving' is that you have X euros each week/month to spend - how can you spend less?

The better question is, why isn't X enough to afford what you want?

The value of x's has gone way down.

Beer is dearer than alcohol. If you could survive eating nothing but Aldi cereal with milk, I reckon you could save a fair bit. I might try that out for a week.

At the supermarket dont spend €1 for each "bag for life" which you will lose after two trips at most, buy a roll of heavy duty bin bags for €1 and use them to carry your shopping home you can leave the unused bags in your pocket for the next time you visit.

    ^^^ THIS

It seems absolutely shameful to me. In Ireland, you stick a large sum of money in your bank account and they charge you fees FOR EVERYTHING, while paying you nothing for the ability to utilize your money to make them more money.

In other countries - it's not like that. They *give* you stuff for keeping money with them.

    It still boggles my mind.
