Can someone help me understand why the gusts are so strong in Nashua, NH right now? We're miles from the storm, but the gusts have to be around 70 mph now, if not more.

Cold Canadian air mixing with the outer bands. This is the 'perfect storm' scenario.

    Ouch !

Footage on the Weather Channel Live of Dewey Beach, Delaware. Water flowing down the streets. Looks eerily similar to what happened in Japan and we're not at high tide time yet. Looks like most of that town will be wiped out.

    Amazing, just amazing.

Sandy moving at 28mph in comparison to 15mph earlier today. I wonder could this reduce the high tide and storm surge combination at all.????????????? Also in terms of storm surge of 10 to 12 feet am I correct in saying an excess wave height is added to the storm surge increase?

We're not at high tide yet and the eye won't hit land for a couple more hours.

I don't think the town will be wiped out, but there will be massive damage for sure.

It's been pretty tame so far at my house, lots of steady rain and wind but nothing spectacular. But the coast is getting hammered. I'm about seven miles inland. Low-lying areas are the problem.

Its still about 3 hours away from New York. I'd expect it to get worse soon enough. New Jersey seems to be taking the brunt of it.

My sister arrived there last night and she is saying the last hour the gusts are very scarey.

If center of #Sandy bends a little left and misses Cape May NJ just to south, official landfall of center could occur in Delaware.

    Oh, boy.

I'm really not worried about myself and my family or friends, but there are some neighborhoods within a few miles of me that experience flooding with only mild storms and have lost power for a week or more. I'm worried for those people, which may include some co-workers. They could be flooded out and/or without power for weeks.

Anyone watching the reporter on CNN standing in the middle of a street in New Jersey???:eek:

the start of brunt of storm has been moved forward from 8pm until 6pm. GOV Andrew Cuomo has just said on ABC7.

Why do people always ask about Hurricanes hitting Ireland? We sometimes get the crappy remnants of storms split into several fronts a few weeks later, we don't get ****ing hurricanes.

Was asking about the probability of missing the East Coast of the US. Not about that it would travel the whole way across the Atlantic.

    Sorry just going OT..

Sometimes they don't make it across the Atlantic at all :) As was the case with Hurricane Debbie in 1961, it was probably not a Hurricane when it reached us but still had Cat1/Cat2 winds. There are a few more like this as well.
