MOH warfighter first impressions

    2 quick things:

    1. If you bought battlefield premium for PC then you can get 50% off MOH warfighter: https://offer.medalofhonor.com/index.php?sourceid=&conversionurl=http%3A%2F%2Fadsrv.ea.com%2Fapi%2F20120529%2FConversion%3Ftoken%3DAKIMy4H8PtSEURMRJQVu576lOrCG1MDWECuFsplxO2LO0

    2. If you have access to a vpn in asia (and later the US) you can access the full game now ahead of the street date.

Played 4 single player missions and I'm very mixed about it.

It's a mess in whatever way they decided to tell the story cause I have no bloody idea whats going on. It's all out of order and time jumping all over the place, so I have no idea why I am anywhere. And for a game that is selling it's international forces factor as a key part, it's been all USA USA USA in the single player (except for a laughable training course level with you playing as a terrorist training to hijack a plane using a mock plane made out of wood and carboard boxes)

    The missions feel very short.

It's call of duty's more serious brother/clone but with the above muddled story there is little charm to this. Though it's got it's fill of gun porn.

I question that a MOH game seems to have put the frostbite 2 engine to more use then DICE did in BF3, there are some lovely graphic bits. But then I see that danger close seem to have serious problems keeping the game running during the campaign as it will boot me to desktop and reboot between missions and carry on as normal (intentional?) quite jarring.

I was very much going to write the game off until the third mission, which is in the same vein as the jet mission in BF3, but done a lot better, it's not a jet and you get a lot more control and it's a fantastic use of the frostbite engine and I'm curious to see how they constructed it.

And I was back to hohumm for the 4th mission until my vpn cacked out on me and EA suddenly remembered the game wasnt meant to be out yet in europe and booted me out.

YOU DONT HAVE TO USE BATTLELOG (you can launch the game and use ingame menu for single player + multiplayer) but if you prefer battlelog then that's available too.

I normally wouldnt have bothered with MOH (havnt picked up a MOH game since allied assault, but I thought the beta was interesting and at £20 it was worth a gander.

Mission 3 has peaked me to keep playing to see what other set pieces exist but little else.

So it's half price on origin now if I got bf3 premium? Well looks like I might not skip on this. I liked the first modern MOH game.

Btw can you install games on different folders from origin? I got origin on small ssd with windows. No way it will fit there.

I've heard a couple of pretty mixed reports about this all right but I do intend picking it up on the strength of the last game. I was only really concerned with the single player and found it to be far more satisfying than most of the modern CoD games (and certainly the BF3 campaign) so if it's anything like that then I should be happy.

Yup, you can change the "Downloaded Games" folder in the Origin settings and also copy already installed games to the new folder and have them be auto-detected without the need to redownload.

If its 50% off, ill get it too

The first game was also written off by reviewers and players alike yet it still stands up today as the best single player modern shooter on this generation.

I think the international aspect is more for the multiplayer and the single player still focuses heavily on the US troops Preacher, Voodoo and ghost from the first game.

Is this 50% off offer valid for jsut preorders or will it be there after the game is released too?
The reason i ask is i havent time to play it just now but for half price its too good to resist.
I actually enjoyed the last MOH multiplayer.

just checked the small print and this offers ends Nov 23rd.

This incoming patch is a bit of a cause for concern: http://www.edge-online.com/news/ea-details-huge-medal-of-honor-warfighter-patch-that-may-explain-review-delay/

Real shame they let games ship with such problems, although at least it will be rectified on day one.

I was far from impressed with the beta, the delayed reviews and massive day one patch hardly inspire confidence either.

Decided to pick this up on friday for the PS3 after seeing that patch. :D

The Day One patch isn't really surprising when you think about it. They couldn't miss their launch window as it would mean running straight into CoD or if even later, missing out on the holiday period. On top of that they would have needed to tweak the game and (hopefully) addressed the issues raised in the beta.

The delayed reviews, on the other hand, hmm...

Tried this and it says invalid promo code

I fired up the singleplayer this morning via a vpn but the multiplayer didnt want to work. I almost tricked it into working (turning on vpn to load into the game and then turning it off before clicking multiplayer in the main menu)

I really liked MOH 2010 but I only played the combat mission levels. Combat mission was like Rush in battlefield but you slowly advanced with your team, holding positions as you went forward and only when your team were within arms reach of the objective would you get a chance to plant.

Lots of people didnt like that you couldnt rush forward in MOH. If you broke cover without your team-mates help, you would get sniped instantly.

Combat mission is in this new game so that's probably what I'll be playing again and the fireteam gameplay mechanic is something different anyway (lots of youtube clips on this)

I was having trouble with the invalid promo code too. I got it to work by going into checkout where it asks for billing and payment info, then I went back to the store without completing the checkout and when I looked in my basket the discount was applied.

Im finally talking to a support agent. If this doesn't work I'll try that.

    edit: Got it sorted :)

I've ordered before the 50% deal, and the EA site for support isn't resolving, so it seems I can't get it cancelled and re-ordered at the cheaper price. But this means I've a spare 50% off code. First to ask gets it. There's no point in asking if you're a BF3 premium player, since you'll already get one.

You still get the discount. This was from a support email:
Your membership in Battlefield 3 Premium just qualified you for 50% off your existing pre-order of Medal of Honor Warfighter. Best of all, you don’t need to do anything to claim it—we’ll credit the savings back to your account just as soon as the game ships!

Please note that because your order was placed before this offer was available, you will initially be charged full price for your copy of Medal of Honor Warfighter. The discount will be credited to your account as a refund two to three days later.

Thanks again for your order, and good luck out there, soldier.

    Sincerely,

    The Origin Team

So I have to get some code? How where when? It's still 50eu for me...

I know gizmo said I can change the folder for origin games, but can I have origin games in separate folders? I don't want to move bf3 of ssd.

Hmm, that's good news then, and good to see them retroactively applying it. I'll wait and see then, and I'll re-offer the code if the newer price kicks in.

played a bit of multiplayer, was enjoyable enough, the 2 man system is actually a lot of fun once you are use to it.

Downloading it now, not expecting much from this but for €25 I may aswell get it.

Home Run is pretty awesome online mode.

It's not battlefield or COD but something different. I'm liking it so far and the fireteam gameplay mechanic is great. You really have to stick close to the person you are paired with and if he gets killed the enemy who killed him is highlighted in red (the rest of your team dont see the highlight though).

I must give the homerun thing a go, I've only played combat mission so far.

There is a MOHW Nations ranking system where you collect tokens by playing and then offer them up to your chosen nation's points. If you donate to the same nation 24 hours later, the points are doubled, tripled on the 3rd day and so on. So your best bet to get ireland up the ranks is to spend the first token you get on the first day then start earning tokens and 24 hours later the tokens you spend will be doubled
