Budget for a week in Vegas

Thinking of taking the missus to Vegas for a week next year. I've been looking around at flights & hotels so have an idea of the cost of getting there and accommodation....

But just wondering how much spending money we'll need once we get there. We're not gamblers but might venture into a couple of casinos to see what they're like.

We'll likely be spending our money on things like

Eating out & drinks - maybe a fancy meal somewhere a couple of nights
Daytrips / sightseeing (Grand Canyon etc.)
    Shows
    Shopping

I'm at a loss as to how much we'd realistically need to cover these sort of things - I'd like to be able to enjoy ourselves without having to worry about being able to afford X, Y or Z.....

Would €1,000 cover us for the week or would it be ambitious trying to do all the above on that kind of budget?

I think €1,000 is going to be way too light to be honest.

Vegas is a place where you can spend as much or as little as you want though.

We did the helicopter trip into the Canyon which cost $300 each! You could do the bus tour to the Canyon but is also pricey at around $80 per person.

Meals depending on where you go are pricey too. Looking at at i'd say $80 pp for a nice place.

Shows are all around $100 per person (The Beatles Love that I went to)

All in all its a pricey place, especially if you do the sightseeing/eating out & gambling.

Its a once in a lifetime place to go though. Well worth it, but dont leave yourself short.

Thanks for the info - assuming that €1,000 would amount to roughly $1,300...

Grand Canyon helicopter trip for both of us would wipe out almost half the budget! - $600

    2 meals out: $320

    1 show: $200

That's $1,120 out of $1,300 - leaving us with $180 for the rest of the holiday....

Wouldn't get very far on that - might as well just put it all on black and see if we can win some more spending money! :pac:

Yeah, the plan is to enjoy it - not have to worry about money - that'd ruin the fun! So it looks like I need to get saving!

Vegas is a place where you can spend as little or as much as you want but you will always spend more than you budget for.

Vegas and budgets don't go hand in hand...its not the nature of the beast

I went for Labor Day Weekend this year with a reasonably thought out budget...it didnt go to plan lol

You'll have a blast so enjoy...i see the Cosmopolitan google ads taunting me on the bottom of this page...leave me alone, you took all my money already...there's none left!!

You could hire a car for a day for probably around $100 and do the grand canyon and also have some independence. Driving in the US is really easy. Just a thought.

Personally I think a week is waaaay too long in Vegas, it starts to get tired.

Vegas can be done on a budget, there are special offers for food everywhere, and you can drink for free while you're gambling in the casinos. BUT I wouldn't recommend Vegas as a budget destination, it's an experience destination. I would agree that €1,000 is nowhere near enough to tick all the boxes you have listed, €1,000 per person is more realistic. You might not spend it but if you don't want to be worrying about money, then you need to make sure you have enough to start with and any left over is a bonus.

3500 dollars it's not like going to Spain you don't want to be worrying about not having enough..trip of a lifetime don't skimp on it

Well if you take it that the guts of day 1 will be a write off due to travelling, hotel check in etc. - and the final day will be spent getting ready & travelling home.... that only really leaves 5 full days.

I've heard that the Grand Canyon tour is the best part of a day...
If they have outlets or shopping malls there's another day gone...
So that leaves 3 days for everything else.

Could always look at shortening the stay in Vegas and spending a couple of days in Chicago or somewhere with connecting flights I suppose!

I went for 5 nights in 2009 and could easily have stayed longer.

Financially what Id suggest doing, is book and pay for your trips/shows before you go.

That way you have more money to spend when your over there.

    ;)

Two or three days is about my limit, the incessant clanging of slot machines can get to you. And its about the last place on earth where you can still smoke inside. And they do.

We're going next week for halloween (2 days). But we're in Seattle so its a little closer.

Just remember you can go to a car hire office and get a car and go explore the absolutely amazing countryside. You can get to LA in four hours, spend the night in Beverley hills, see the pacific beaches and drive back to vegas.

I absolutely agree. I've been to Vegas 5 or 6 times but no more than 3 days at a time. In addition to the above, you can't walk down the street without prostitutes cards being flicked at men every ten feet, even pushing women out of the way to do so. It is not a pleasant experience and gets old very quickly.
