Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Arsenal need a big response from the Norwich game and will be looking to make it three wins from three tonight against Schalke. The Germans are two points behind the Gunners and will also be looking to qualify from this group. They are currently third in the Bundesliga and beat Dortmund away at the weekend.

I hope Arsenal win. A draw is a strong possibility tonight! Teams to follow later.

Game is live on Sky Sports 4 and Setanta Ireland.

"Both teams have the same coaches in charge as when the two sides last met in the Champions League during the 2001-02 season, when Arsenal won 3-2 win at Highbury before losing 3-1 in Germany."

Can see something similar happening this time round......2-1 Arsenal. Tough match.

Will be a tough game. A win would all but guarantee our progression from the group imo, will be hard fought to get one though. If we play to our potential we can get the 3 points.

Confirmed Arsenal starting 11. Giroud on the bench.

Mannone, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos, Coquelin, Arteta, Cazorla, Ramsey, Podolski ,Gervinho

    Come on Arsenal!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭KaiserGunner

Dont like that team at all. I know we are stretched with injuries and all but, still. Im assuming Ramsey will be playing on one of the wings? Id play Giroud instead of Ramsey and play Podolski and Gervinho on the wings. Cant see what we are going to get from Ramsey out wide.

Edit. I suppose Santi could play out wide but then our creativity through the centre would be seriously hindered.

Would rather keep Gervinho out on the right than play Ramsey their.

    Looked a Peno to me

Very, very lucky that lad couldn't go down properly. Arsenal players are as awake as Saturday anyway so far.

Fair play by the ref there.

In real time I was sure that was a peno but on the replay was a definite dive. Although if he hadn't dived he would have been hit and won the peno.

Stupid from Vermaelen and still **** refereeing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Lucky there that affelay went down so early or else it would have been a penalty

Deserves a yellow for that dive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭MaxPower89

3 bits of rubbish play from gervinho in the space of 5 minutes, gave it away twice and whatever he was doing there....

    Anyone watching this online?

I can't get to a TV, and firstrow isn't working for me. Any other streams?

    You don't want a stream.

    Gervinho.

WTF is the story with him?

    Two great blocks from per.

zero threat from the right hand side. Its ridiculous playing Ramsey out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

We've been poison so far. Could do with getting Giroud on for Ramsey at HT and putting Giroud up top.

The sooner Gibbs gets back the better, Santos is gone backwards and he wasn't really that good to begin with.

I have Over 2.5 goal. Not watching but any chance of it coming in....

Ya he should have buried that. The Germans looking the more dangerous team atm. Change needed at h/t

Santos is going to cost us in this game.

This is a time when using all 3 substitutions at half time looks like a good idea.

Coquelin is the only positive so far. Need to swap Gervinho and Podolski. Pod's been poor for 5 games now

    I highly doubt it

i think Mert has been good too, made some very important interceptions.

Gervinho is driving me up the wall, he's not a striker. Giroud should be on asap.

Nice to see the response from the Norwich game.

We cant be any worse this half.

The Germans should bang in a few if we keep defending the way we have been.

Seriously why is Giroud still on the bench?! Gervinhos threat is completely nullified if a team sit deep. At least with Giroud on we could whip in a few crosses.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Unlucky there. Finally a nice move. Cazorla needs to be involved more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,627 ✭✭✭Lawrence1895

C'mon the Arsenal. I don't want them blue (all those who like Borussia Dortmund can insert an insult of their choice) to win again. Thanks :)

    This is ridiculous.

    Got away with murder there

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Should be behind at this stage. We may as well not be playing with a left back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Coquelin one of the only positives so far.

Santos is giving nothing down the left, Ramsey giving nothing down the right, Gervinho not doing a whole lot either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Santi getting a bit frustrated now.

Coquelin the stand out player. The rest of them have carried in where they left of on Saturday.

Good thing for Arsenal that Schalke just aren't very good tonight.

    .

Still nothing. Annoyingly this is the second time in a week I have had two parts of a treble in and Arsenal are letting me down....

ffs Gervinho is so frustrating to watch!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Been impressed with Schalke defensively. That Japanese full back is a decent player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭DenMan

Haven't been able to follow this game at all. Such a crap viewing. Stopping and starting. Make some subs Wenger...let's nick a winner! Arshavin would be a great sub to bring on.

    Ramsey, sigh.

Fixed. He keeps leaving the changes very late.

I've figured out that Gervinho is actually at his best whenever he is not touching the ball. He is able to move his body around the ball as it's moving well and much of his success comes from dummies where he doesn't touc the ball.

[edit] Dive form him there. Should have kept going.
