Oslo Hirlam 00z run has a possible mesoscale feature developing off the Donegal coast tomorrow morning. Dosen't look especially noteworthy and may be dropped in later runs but worth keeping an eye on just for the time being.

12z run still has this feature but further north and east for same time period.

find it had to decipher myself, all I can work out is that the red bits seem to be the areas of high wind.

The red bits are mountains, so doubt thats it.
There are some numbers dotted around the place though.

Select 'Legend' in the 'Menu' box on the right hand side. The different colours show the average wind speed (m/s).
The red numbers are just part of the map background (kms between towns).

A 2256 update from Met Eireann - It will be a very wet and windy start to Friday in parts of Ulster, north Connacht and north Leinster as heavy thundery downpours spread eastwards. There will be the risk of spot flooding as well as hail and sleet on higher ground. These heavy falls of rain will clear the east coast during the afternoon. Elsewhere it will be brighter, with sunny spells and scattered showers. A cool day with highs of 6 to 10 degrees in moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.

    Outlook

It will be windy on Saturday night with rain along the west coast. The rain will be heavy and may produce some sleet on higher ground. The rain will spread further inland overnight. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees, with the cooler weather on the east coast. Winds will be mainly moderate southerly overland but will be fresh to strong along coasts.
Sunday will be a cool day with widespread outbreaks of rain. It will be quite windy at times and temperatures will only climb to between 6 and 10 degrees. The rain will continue for a while on Sunday night, but it will gradually clear from the north towards dawn. Lows of 2 to 4 degrees.
Monday will be a cold and windy day with moderate to fresh northerly winds. There will be some heavy rain at times along the east coast, while elsewhere it will be drier with some bright spells. Highs on Monday of 7 to 10 degrees. It will become cold night under clearing skies and temperatures will drop to between -1 and +2 degrees, with a widespread frost. Tuesday will be a drier day with some sunny spells and highs of 8 to 11 degrees. However a band of rain will spread nationwide through Wednesday.

From Met Eireann-Westerly winds will reach gale force and occasionally strong gale force on coasts from Erris Head to Malin Head to Howth Head and on the Irish Sea north of Anglesey overnight and through Friday morning and afternoon.

On RTE after the news Evelyn was showing the weather for the week ahead, she showed gales for Friday but behind her they had "storm" marked but said nothing about it, is there a chance of a storm next weekend ????

I think its the remains of sandy.

They were saying here on the board that Sandy would break up over Canada, how is it coming over here now.

No, there is another storm coming up along the US east coast next Wed/Thur, its the remains of that which might end up heading our way, but that's a long way off and there is a good chance that won't happen.

Sandy has largely broken up, the energy from it may redevelop across the far northern Atlantic around the end of the coming week, but this is not really a direct path for Sandy to wherever this energy ends up.

The question about the next system firing off a deep low in the vicinity of Ireland in about 9-10 days will have to be watched with interest but it's far too soon to be going into storm watch mode yet. It does generally fit the pattern and there is an energy peak (almost-perigeean new moon is the 13th with secondary energy peaks). The chances are probably greater that the result will be more of an ordinary frontal system than anything dramatic.

First time poster here (but long time lurker) but thought this may be of interest. I was in Iceland over the weekend and they had some of the worst wind storms in years - I'd never felt anything like it! Friday 2nd was particularly bad - we saw people literally blown off their feet in Reykjavik. It calmed down on the 3rd and we got to visit the geysirs and craters. Asking our guide about it she said when the schools in Iceland are closed, you know it is something serious! Some info & video here on it:

Some injuries and damage, but it looks like nothing too bad thankfully.
Amazing county, had a fantastic trip!
