    As you know with MLB stats are key really but I'm trying to run numbers on OBP's for teams against BB% to see if I can work a method of betting against the top pitchers who in general get over rated and the price's on the opposition are always slight value. So far its been 55/45 but the sample size is too small so I've been trying to correlate data from teh last 10 years, encountering problems finding all the data I need though which is making the process slow.

    You may already have these but 2 good data sources I use for historical comparisons would be:

    Lahman's Database (Free)

    Complete Baseball Encyclopedia (Small fee for database which Lee posts to you on CD-ROM, pay a bit extra for daily updates)

    If you're serious about targeting starting pitchers then Paul Sporer's annual pitching guide is monsterous and has all you need ($12 and it's emailed). He also does weekly pitcher v pitcher matchup previews which are useful.

    Good stat about the Miami Marlins (since I noticed you were backing them yesterday), since the All-Star Break last year, Marlins have scored an average of 3.8 runs per game with Giancarlo Stanton in the team and averaged only 2.6 runs per game when he hasn't played.

    Stanton went down with a hamstring injury on Monday and is officially on the disabled list. Offensively that leaves Marlins with very little to offer (he wasn't producing much anyway before the injury but the stat stands)

    So I'll be looking at backing any team coming up against the Marlins (though there's little value as they're already the worst team in baseball), as well as under markets.

    Conversely the Houston Astros are averaging over 4 runs scored per game and as of last week that equates to more runs scored than 16 out of the other 29 teams in the majors so there might be value in their markets as they are scoring runs but also still perceived as being dreadful offensively.

    Looking forward to more MLB picks!

    The reason I was backing the Marlins yesterday was actually K Slowey, a really underrated pitcher who's been desperately unlucky to not have a win going back to 2010 I think. He's got the worst run support in the league in that time frame as well. I absolutely agree about the Marlins though worst team in baseball right now.

    I like the Astro's at the moment but not tonight, cant back them with Bedard on the mound tonight.

    I'm currently opposing Cliff Lee and CJ Wilson tonight. Also I think Chen (Baltimore) and Lincecum provide some value and Milone(A's). The season is still young though and I'm still fine tuning things.
