Windows 7 Home Premium - Show Desktop icon in Quick Launch?

Simple question: how can I put a Desktop Icon in the Quick Launch tray at the bottom of the screen, on my Windows 7 laptop? Why it isn't put there as standard along with the odious IE, is beyond me. Thanks. D.

annoying the way its currently set up and I much prefer the old icon on the taskbar
