I had the exact same question posed to me yesturday, as chance would have it, also for a ten-year-old daughter that loves MC. Integrated graphics will be fine, so just look for anything with HD 4000 graphics.

Can't spec you any specifics now unfortunately, but someone will be along shortly. We've got a great turn-around time around here. :P

As Serephucus says any i3 laptop with HD4000 graphics would do you just fine (Look for laptops i3-3xxxm CPUs). Not sure what your budget is but if you are are looking at an under 500 budget then even the previous generation i3-2xxxm processors would be adequate for minecraft as well. But you probably would get a bit more longevity out of the newer models.

Have a look at Saveonlaptops.co.uk they have a good range, fast delivery and some pretty decent prices.

Good few lads in the laptops forum swear by a custom built ones from pcspecialist.co.uk as well. The 15.6" Genesis IV configured with 4GB ram and the i3-3110m comes to about €550. If ordering for christmas just bear in mind that they do have a relatively waiting period, as the laptops are custom build so allow for roughly 10 days in addition to the delivery time. Haven't seen one in the flesh personally but the quality is supposedly very good indeed.

Although their PC parts are relatively expensive, Komplett aren't the worst for laptop prices either, and any given week they usually have a decent deal going on one or two models .

Just incase you dont know its available on xbox 360 now, its not as feature packed as the PC version and has nothing like mods, texture packs etc but it did get creative mode very recently which pleased my kids.
My son normally plays on his PC but now since creative mode is on the 360 he plays that with his younger sister.
Just thought it was worth mentioning incase you have a 360,it might save you some money.

Won't the new APU systems fit the bill? They got quite a good integrated solution which is better then hd4000. You could get one for under 550eu too?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Yeah, the AMD APUs could be a good option alright. These would give you more graphics power than the i3s. For minecraft, it doesn't matter - but if you knew that she was going onto other games later.

    Ultra-thin:

    More powerful:

The Intel i3/i5 will give you more processing power, so the system will be snappier in non-graphics tasks.
Make sure that you are looking at the latest generation though, as it will make a significant difference to the performance. You can tell them as they are labelled as i3-3XXX or i5-3XXX. Last generation begins with a 2, as in, i3-2XXX.

it should not melt, you got already recomended two laptops above which have the i3 and i 5 with 3XXX processors, the ones you looking for. you linked again the laptop with processor 2310M

just calm down. you better choose right now, instead of savinf 50eu and still buying an item which is not right for you.

    What's your budget on this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭cathy01

Well, I thought about €400 , but I think from feedback, this is to low for what I need.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭uncle_sam_ie

Yeah €400 is low. My wife wanted a laptop for my son to play mincraft and other games like Skyrim but, looking into it I found that I was going to need to spend close to €900 and more for something decent. I ended up building a desktop for him for a lot less. Is a desktop an option? You'd get a better PC for less, a bigger screen and something that would be more upgradeable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

A laptop is probably a better option, you need to buy a monitor for a desktop which will probably end up making it more expensive.
It's minecraft not any high end gaming. A 10 yr old girl will probably get better use out of a laptop anyway

If you can afford an extra €72 this laptop
Which was already recommended will easily play minecraft.
