Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not really big news, but enough of an excuse to post!

never knew she grew up in Blackrock

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/video-sports-presenter-rachel-wyse-joins-the-irish-independent-3269845.html

NOW there’s another great reason to get the Irish Independent every Saturday - Rachel Wyse starts her new weekly sports column this weekend.
The Dubliner is one of the most recognised women in sport, thanks to her high-profile role with Sky Sports News which is broadcast throughout Europe.
Each week, Rachel will offer readers her forthright views on the big sports stories capturing the headlines and some of those which may have escaped your attention.
Rachel (27) grew up in Blackrock, Co Dublin. A former model and show-jumper, the television anchor began her career in broadcasting at City Channel, before working on projects for TG4 and TV3.
You can read Rachel every Saturday in the Irish Independent.

Sky Sports News is broadcast throughout Europe? Where exactly?

Other countries have their own versions but I don't now where they show the UK one.

There's a big difference between a free online forum and a national newspaper.

Does it matter? People buy it.

The point is she reads out the sports news. I don't see how that qualifies her to have an opinion on it.

So what qualifies you to have an opinion on that?
She writes an opininion peace. Big deal.

Not a huge fan of the broadsheet tabloid tbh

But that poster doesnt write for and get paid to write for a national newspaper. When i pick up the sports section of a paper i want to be informed. She's a nice looking girl but she reads the sports news, nothing else.

Another sign that the Indo is nothing more than a tabloid masquerading as a broadsheet

Of course I don't know her.
Why begrudge her that she is getting paid to give an opinion?
Have you read her stuff yet that you are so sure that she can't have a valid opinion?
If you don't like it just don't read it or buy it 'pal'

I have never heard of her. Don't pay for $ky Tv.

Is she famous for anything other than reading off an autocue?

It's like a badge of honour not to pay for Sky.
I don't know if she has done anything else.

It's nothing to do with begrudgery. She simply doesn't have any credentials to write a sports column. I won't be reading it but all the best to her. Maybe Brian Dobson can slap up a piece on the Irish economy and send it into Forbes magazine - "I read the news, I know what's up"

If she is talking about show jumping and the like then I think its fair enough if she or her editor spout on about that, as she has history of a sort with that particular past time. Any other sport and I think they may as well ask my 9 year old, as she has as much knowledge about other sports as it would appear Rachel has.

Sweet Jesus, did anyone read it? It's utter garbage. The Indo is embarrassing itself with this. Her main piece was always going to be on racing but they can't get away with that every week. Her piece on the Champions League is like something a work experience kid would do and then her last piece is on how she loves her high-flying job. Tripe of the highest order.

Love this free plug for $ky TV

Hectic schedule - but it's worth it

Having worked at Sky Sports News for the last two years, I've been lucky enough to be a part of the coverage of some of the biggest breaking news stories that have gripped sports fans on both sides of the Irish Sea.

There's nothing more fulfilling, work-wise, than coming off air after a hectic five-hour shift with plenty of breaking news, live sport and interesting guests.

But, behind the scenes, I can tell you that it's a massive operation with a quality team to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Without doubt, there are certain pressures that come with the job, but the highs far outweigh the lows.

Working at our studio in Stratford for the two weeks of the London Olympics has been my most memorable experience so far. The 2.30am starts can be difficult, but what makes it all worth it is when you meet and interview some of the world's greatest athletes.

A hectic 5hrs of work? God love you. I bet you'd rather be working in a hospital A&E to get a rest!

Where is the pressure of working for 5hrs and reading the same reports off an autocue about 15 times without change. Maybe the pressure is trying to look attractive and making sure I get that FHM photoshoot, cos the rest of the SSN girls do them.

    Awful piece of 'journalism'.

Hunter has written a few pieces as a guest writer, to which he has linked from his Twitter in the past.

Henry Winter makes an occasional foray as a guest writer as well as Balague who has written articles for the Indo in the past also

I like Hunter. Hence why I crossed his name out. The other two are attention seeking plebs who shouldn't be taken seriously, Balague especially.
