I like my egg well done. How many minutes boiling is required to get the yolk that black colour on the outside? I keep under cooking the ****ing thing.

Bring water to the boil then 5 minutes for soft boil 10 minutes for hard boiled and to get that black look about 20 minutes.

What the hell is this shït?? Breakfast eggs need to be runny and a line of soldiers ready for dunking. Non runny eggs are for salad.

You don't win friends with salad.

I have a little round plastic thing that I pop my egg in, put it in the microwave for three mins. Result, a lovely not too runny not too hard boiled egg.

the black on th yolk of the egg is not caused by the boiling, but by the cooling

Boil it for a hour so if you want it black?

The yoke turning black is actually the Iron in it reacting with the air.

Pop the fresh unbroken egg in microwave for 10 minutes. Perfect hard boiled egg.

Hard boiled, but evenly distributed around the entire microwave ;)

That is actually caused by a chemical reaction while the egg is cooling down, not from cooking, boil it for 5 minutes and then jut take the pot off the heat and leave it in the water to cool down, the yolk will be manky and black in about 20 minutes.

Its the iron alright, which is in the yolk, reacting with the sulfur and hydrogen in the egg white. Overcooking causes it id say. its probably more dark green than black.

The black ring forms when it's left for a while after cooking, as it cools.

Funny you should say that, I like my boiled egg done like my steak - medium.

Yolk should be a little runny, a little hard.

It forms from cooking, and enough forms from overcooking to be clearly visible, and eggs left to naturally cool continue to cook for another few minutes. It does seem to become more visible in cold eggs alright.

    Third last answer here

And another item about it, for anyone interested

hard boiled eggs cold, with some ballymaloe relish on a buttered bagel

    Is disgusting

I like a soft boiled egg. For preference, a duck egg.

A hard-boiled duck egg mashed and mixed with mayo is the sandwich filling of the gods.

Poached eggs are so much nicer, not to mention easier to eat
