    Hi All,

I'm currently looking into apply for the AINP and then applying for permanent residency. I was wondering has anyone on here used an Immigration Consultant that they would recommend. I'm based in Calgary.

    Thanks

    Jess

    Hi Jess

be very careful, it's a minefield out there. The government is busy trying to weed out the massive fraud involved in the industry. Also, most consultants work on commission and make a living supplying folks with false hope.

That said there are solid, honest consultants out there who are experienced and know what they're talking about. I used a guy called Des Friedland (not sure I'm allowed to post a link but can be Googled) out of Vancouver, although you may be better off finding someone in Alberta anyway, but also bear in mind most of the paperwork is very straightforward and you can do much if not all of it yourself.

When applying for PR we didn't use anyone, and while in some countries there are unseen advantages to having someone in the know, in Canada there is usually not. Due to a long delay in my application I contacted my local MP (whose campaign I had worked on, although I know that didn't make a difference) and it turned out he had some minions who dealt with immigration stuff full time.

    best of luck.
