Waxing a floor????

    Hi,

    I just got oak floorboards for my kitchen, just wondering what the census is on putting a briwax on them, instead of a stain/varnish??
    Can it handle the footwear plus having two babies around?
    Can you use bleach and mop a waxed floor?


    Any advice would be great,

    ah
    no. wax is the softest finish you can use and your oak boards will be filthy in no time

    This would not be a good idea, especially on a kitchen floor, Wax is a very soft finish and will get dirty very quickly. Then it will have to be waxed again and again to maintain a proper colour. Use a good floor varnish and give a floor three coats. Sanding lightly between coats with fine sand paper to give each coat a grip. You will also have to give the back of the boards a good heavy coat of varnish to stabalise the board. Otherwise you will have a sealed side and an unsealed side which will cause a thing called crowning. This is where moisture can penetrate the back of the board and cause the board to cup,
