It's that time of the year again for us to vote on the Rock/Metal Gig of the Year for 2012.

    Previous winners were :-

2010 Kiss @ The O2 (Runner up was Porcupine Tree @ Tripod)

2011 Rush @ The O2 (Runner up was QOTSA @ The Olympia)

If you've been to a totally awesome gig put it in here, all i need is band and venue.

On or around December 16th, The Top 10 nominations will be put into a poll and we'll vote on Best Rock/Metal gig of 2012 (Only 1 vote per person)

    Rules

Gig MUST be on Irish Soil in 2012
You can nominate as many gigs as you want

PLEASE TRY AND LIMIT YOUR CHOICES TO TRULY MEMORABLE GIGS, NOT JUST ANY OLD GIGS YOU HAVE BEEN TOO

    My nominations are :-

Dropkick Murphy's @ Vicar Street, A truly great gig, great set list and the band were on fire

Rammstein @ The O2. Probably in my Top 5 gigs of all time, just immense from the intro through to Pussy, IMO this gig will take a lot to beat this year

Machine head at the Olympia may 30th brilliant set list and amazing performance.

Evile at the pint October 21st, they played a few songs that they had not played for a while and they sounded great, the atmosphere was really intense with a lot of moshing and crowd surfing, truly memorable gig.

Rammstein at the O2. It was quite the experience!

I'm a music photographer so I go to a lot of gigs, about 3 a week so its a tough decision.. my top nominations would be..

Interacting with the crowd is a big part of a performance for me, they don't just have to sound fantastic which Hell do, they have to have a certain charm that says they are not afraid to mix with the fans who made it possible for them to be on stage in the first place.

    (1) Hell @ the button factory - They were the best band I've seen this year when it came to putting on a visual and strong lyrical performance. Yes Rammstein were brilliant but even in the pit the performance was too big to really become a personal experience, I like the Point but I prefer seeing bands in a smaller venue where you feel more connected to the show.

    (2) Rammstein @ the Point

    (3) Sepultura @ the Academy

Have a feeling Rammstein will win this year but mine are:

    Bruce Springsteen - RDS

    Foo Fighters - Belfast

It's gotta be Sleep in the Button Factory for me as well. One of the most memorable gigs I have even been to.

Been to some very good gigs this year, and still a few more to go (Opeth, Katatonia and God is an Astronaut). Honourable mentions to Iced Earth and The Black Keys, but there can only be one winner:

    Rammstein at the O2

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Rammstein or Sleep (reserving a space for Converge in December :D )

Lamb of God at the academy for me.

I so wanted to enjoy Rammstein but the arsehole I went with ruined the night for me, they'd still be my 2nd choice though.

    Tenacious D @ the o2

    Rammstein.

    That's it, just Rammstein :p

Couple of gigs to go yet before the end of the year, but obviously Rammstein will have to get the nod of those that I've seen so far. I thought Gary Numan in the Button Factory was excellent too. Need to go back and check who else I saw this year!

Seconding Lamb of God, I loved both of the bands playing that night.

Also gonna say Dying Fetus at the Pint, and Decapitated at the Pint.

Devin Townsend's Retinal Circus gets my vote.

Rammstein all the way for me closely followed by Chris Cornell's Songbook in the Olympia

How'd he ruin it for you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭Twilightning

Ensiferum at The Button Factory was a great contender for sure.

He got obnoxiously drunk before the gig even started and then complained through the whole thing about how crap the band were and was approached by security a few times because he was falling over drunk in the smoking area. Believe it or not, it went even further downhill after the gig. Never again. Thanks for asking though.

A Pale Horse Called Death in Dublin at the start of the year. For some reason I thought itwas a late 2011 gig not an early 2012 one.

New album out early next yearas well.:D
