Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cannot begin to imagine the hell her family are going through.

The guards have to follow certain procedures when investigating someone's disappearance and if they got it wrong they would be hounded that is why they are meticulous. Slagging them off does nothing to help as they do a good job.

    i disagree.
we have almost a dozen women gone missing in this state.
how many of those have they traced?
sadly their track record is very poor.

i welcome their "success" in finding this poor girl, however tragic.

i agree our thoughts must be for her poor family.
    this is your worst nightmare.

my point is i believe the guards were very quick to dismiss this as simply another girl has gone missing and no need to worry. any girl that goes missing in that area, you have to assume the worst. (btw i believe a serial killer has been operating in that area for some time, but they dismiss that also. again i disagree with them.)
their track record in apprehending those responsible for what must be almost a dozen missing women in this state is very poor.

This is based on your extensive insider knowledge of the case then is it? You've witnessed a serial killer in the area yourself? Or are you another armchair detective up in arms because what you're watching on the telly isn't satisfying your morbid curiosity. The gards may have had very good reason to release what they have done to the press, when they did, without thinking they might have needed your approval first. Give it a rest, leave the police work to the actual police. This should be about Aoife and her family. For my part I hope she is found asap. My thoughts are with all her loved ones.

where did i say i witnessed a serial killer?
where did i say i had insider knowledge?
where did i say they needed my approval?

i stated what was MY OPINION. that's all.

Yes you did, in a misplaced and inappropriate manner. That would be my opinion.

    nonsense.
you have made accusations you cannot stand over and have been exposed.
next time you decide to open your mouth, it's always a good idea to have some knowledge of what you are talking about.;)

did she go to school with this man,
i was reading on websluets that her ex boyfriend had gone to america a few days before she went missing, it must be hard on him to come home to this, her family must be going through hell.
i wonder what make them think she is gone, i am hoping that she is found, we are speaking of two here, she and her baby, hope someone was not that bad to murder a little innocent baby also,

Sounds like a cunning plan. "Come on home, you're not a suspect".

Man that was arrested in connection to Aoifes disappearance released without charge.

Someone somewhere has to know what happened, would they not please come forward and let her family have some closure?

This was actually from yesterday http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/gardai-looking-for-aoife-phelan-begin-digging-local-garden-573171.html
Detectives searching for pregnant nanny Aoife Phelan have begun digging ground at the rear of a house in her home town.

Forensic experts are using a mini-digger and shovels as part of the latest search for Aoife centred at an address on Timahoe Road, in Portlaoise, Co Laois.

The sealed-off house was raided last night by investigating gardaí.

There was no media frenzy to search for her from the get go, they most have known something more sinister had happened :(

    May she rest in peace.

Wonder what's in the file that's been sent to the DPP?

Terrible for the family but at least they'll get closure. Whatever about the scumbaggery of taking someone's life, but not telling where the body is is just as bad in my opinion.

(I realise that the person who was in for questioning may not have had that knowledge, i more referring to other recent cases in Australia and Wales).

RIP to Aoife and her child. Anyone who kills someone else is low but it takes a special kind of scumbag to hurt a pregnant woman. Hope whoever it is will be caught soon.

I hope for her family's sake that it is her, and they can try to start to grieve for her and the child.

The last few days must have been horrific for them. RIP.

Why is there not more about this on the news? Why are some women huge in the news and some not. Aoife should have a bit of attention on her story. And who is the guy? If he's been released without charge, who's house are they searching?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,838 ✭✭✭midlandsmissus

I mean it's not often bodies are found in gardens of houses in Ireland!!! Why is this not all over the news? There's fdefinitely been a lack of reporting on this. Why?

RIP Aoife, very very sad story.
Hopefully the Gardai will apprehend the killer soon.

Probably because she was a young single mother to be

May she rest in peace, and may God give her family and friends the strength to get through this

what exactly does file sent to the ddp mean he didn't do it or they had nothing until the body now might tie him to it

Hopefully they'll get closure now and some privacy to grieve in private.
Thoughts and prayers with the family.

From the Irish Herald. Now I'm not incriminating the man they're talking about here, but the reporting is sickening, he is 'highly respected and well known in GAA circles',

'The Herald understands that the highly respected local man -- who is understood to be abroad -- is the father of a child that Aoife is four months pregnant with. The man, who is well known in local GAA circles, has not returned to Ireland from overseas where he was on a brief holiday.'

I hate this aspect in small local villages, where there is definitely a GAA hierarchy, you're either respected if your family is part of the GAA scene, and you're not if you're not. It's nearly expected that you have to get involved in this, and seen to be bizarre if you don't. GAA has too much of a stranglehold on Irish country society. It's always indicated in reports that if the person was 'well known in local GAA circles' then they are deserving of the utmost respect. Ridiculous. These crimes are as often committed by well respected people in social scenes as they are by the stereotype - homeless men down a dark alleyway.

It was the first item on One News on RTE television today.
It is the first item currently on the RTE.ie, Independent.ie, BreakingNews.ie and presumably other websites.
This on the day Obama has won a new term.
So I'm not sure what you're talking about!

In the news there's been a lot of detailed information about the investigation the last day or two , have to think that they are very close to charging or arresting somebody

A sad and tragic end in the search for Aoife. Our deepest condolences go out to Aoife's friends and family.

Since this has turned into a full blown, fast paced murder investigation, it is best to avoid speculation here and let AGS get on with the investigation.

    R.I.P
