Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If it's that bad they should get out of there. Not going to help anyone if the Emergency Services have to go and rescue them.

News Reporters seem to think they are invincible, at some point you have to put down the camera.

True but they must have a limit set and are aware of the dangers. Am sure when they think it will become seriously dangerous they will get her out of there.

He may not have organised it but he will certainly hijack it. :)
Sort of like how you hijacked this event for your agenda? You are making absolutely absurd claims....

Its sadly the nature of news reporting, or to be more accurate american news reporting.
Things "look better" & reports engage viewers better if for example a reporter is knee deep in a flood rather than being 8 miles away from any danger.

Its the nature of the game. Sure, why would any reporter also goto a warzone too. But the reality of things are that while in the shot it looks bad ... it aint as bad as where the shot could of been taken. Kinda like "get in, shoot, get out" type of deal.

01:06am Sky News are reporting about how a crane, a crane thats on top of a high rise construction building in New York, has collapsed. Not fully off the bulding. But its arm has collapsed and is swaying.

Alot of New York is without power. Images have been taken of New York's famous skyline/buildings showing no power.

01:19am A power station has gone down. They are trying to use diesel generators to get it back up.

A lot of reports on Facebook of buildings being on fire, some with people in them, around Rockaway.

God love the emergency services, they have some job.

Hope nothing too bad comes of it. A guy I'm friends with on Facebook who is in the US put up a status saying he was heading east "just to see what a hurricane really looks like". Madness.

Reports on the internet of transformers exploding. Read one that said a hospital was struggling to start up its back up generators.

    Explosion starts at 18s

Then a whole lot of nothing.

    Bigger explosions at 3:08

I've lost power 3 times so far here in Connecticut but the utility company has gotten us restored quickly. But a tree has landed in a neighbours bathroom and another landed on their patio. It's.going to be a long night.

You poor thing. I cant imagine how scary it must be, especially for those trying to keep calm for the sake of young children and trying to make it out like it is a bit of fun for their sakes.

Hearing a lot of fires including possibly Coney Island Hospital.

I'd like to see how well 300,000 Irish people would take to being told that they had to get the heck out of Dodge. It would be a train wreak of epic proportions. Not everyone has the physical or financial ability to evacuate, or has somewhere safe to go.

Pretty ignorant post. People act the same everywhere in the world, its a natural reaction "it won't happen to me and i'm safer in my own home".

So how many deaths are there normally in Jersey, Connecticut and NYC?

What a washout ....I was expecting this thing to bang around for 24 hours. Long Island got a few power cuts and a spot of flooding and that was it. What a friggin' gyp.

from what Sky news are saying... the "stormy" conditions in New York are over. But next comes heavy snow etc.

You're right. Not a peep about the 60+ dead in the Caribbean (which isn't "off topic") until the casinos of Atlantic City and some blue-bloods' pads in The Hamptons suffer a power outage.

    Bring on the ban.

BTW, 12 killed in Lahore bombing.

All sky news are going on about now is the campaign and politics , push it back a week or two and concentrate on the welfare and safety of the american people

    Very sad to hear that.

    But:

    1. There has been mention of those killed in the Carribbean.

    2. Its not just some casinos and hamptons pads that are being affected.....60 million people are in the path of this storm including some people I love so am glad it is getting the coverage it needs.

    You read my mind exactly.
I mean, two hours ago the storm was hitting. Now its also about the next president

It really does make you cynical about the news. Now that the storm has passed New York - Move onto someone else. But of course, splicing the damage in between.

Just heard now that East Side Medical Centre backup generators have failed and they are carrying babies down stairs. Now that is just pathetic. How much time was given for this storm and even if it wasn't enough time who is/was responsible for a hospital's backup power?
    In MANHATTAN?

    Would this happen in Cuba?

That great quote comes to mind "You're doing a helluva job, Brownie."
