Why is it so hard to get insurance?

I'm an 18 year old American male with an international drivers license. I am in the process of purchasing an 2.5L car imported from the US. It's a pretty weak car back home and worth only 2500 euros at most, but insurance companies here act like its the most powerful thing on the road and refuse to cover me.

I have never gotten into an accident and have been driving in the US since I was 14. I had my 1985 Corvette with a 5.7L engine insured in my name for $8000 a year. A car like the one being imported should only cost around 3,000 a year to insure. I've never heard of companies refusing money. Haha

We'd need some more information to see if we can offer you cover on this. Can you PM me your details and I can arrange for someone to get back to you on this?
    Thanks

I was declined by Liberty. Apparently no claims and no accidents wasn't good enough.

It's the combination of factors that's the problem, not the car.
You are young / male and have dont have an Irish License, trying to get insured on a 2.5lit car. That's going to make it expensive!!

    Try a broker!!

    Hi Feudalistic PopTart

It would appear your details didn't meet our underwriting criteria I'm afraid. I would agree with marcus2000's suggestion of speaking to a broker as they will probably be able to help with finding a specialist insurer if you're having difficulty finding cover to suit. Best of luck with getting covered.
