I'm a big fan of geraniums, I have a few large ones in pots & planters, I'm looking for a few tips on helping them to survive the cold & frost during the winter, all I have is a windowless shed for storage.

Depending on amount and size of them and space permitting, option 1, move them into your house , option2 build a temporary cloch/cold frame in a shelteted part of garden.

    Geraniums or pelargoniums?
    Geranium: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geranium
    Pelargonium: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelargonium

I'm guessing that they're probably pelargoniums (pelargonia?) (they were commonly called geraniums until fairly recently; lots of lovely flowers, slightly odd smell, hairy leaves). Mine survived last winter no problem because it was so mild but I'd say that, to be sure, you'd need to find them a nice, sunny, indoors windowsill that they can sit on.

Geraniums (small flowers in spring, non-hairy leaves, die back each winter), on the other hand, tend to be pretty hardy; mine didn't flinch at the bad winter a couple of years back

I'm constantly having this argument with people, it must be the most common case of mistaken identity in a garden.
