What was the story with R2D2 being in low powered mode? Was he depressed? Why did he wake when he did?

He must be a force aware droid.

Daisy really is a stunner, it hasn't been said enough. She has great screen presence too, like a young Kiera Knightley as someone stated before.

This. She really owns the screen in her scenes which is pretty incredible for such a young actor. The future is bright for this one...

If you watch Star Wars, any film, and keep an eye on R2, he's actually the hero and saves the day in every situtation right? No difference here, but think it was Kasdan explained that you see BB8 run up to him and basically ask him 'do you have the rest of this map?' and it just takes him a few days to answer...or somethin

I could be wrong, but R2 powers up the first time he comes into contact with Rey? Could have been told by Luke to stay dormant until Rey is ready

I thought it was the presence of the saber that triggered him to wake up.

I think this is the proper explanation for R2 waking up.

I took it that it was unsafe to reveal the full map to Luke until the First Order were beaten back. So R2 didn't power back up until that was done.

I took it as a complete coincidence which should have had a tiny bit of explanation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭Falthyron

I took it as R2 realising the movie was actually very good and could now wake-up without fear of being associated with yet another Star Wars disaster :P

    PTSD for a droid.

Just remembering. R2 has scanners. Remember in Empire when Luke hasnt come back and R2 is at the shield door waiting on him?

Maybe he does wake up when he picks up Rey when she comes within range. Lends weight to the idea she is Lukes and R2 would have met her before.

I love star wars, but once is enough to see this, well for a few years anyway

I cant even look at the special editions, cringe. Luckily I have unaltered versions myself. Disney need to get the unaltered versions out asap.

You guys should download the people vs George Lucas.

It'll tell you why we aren't getting any of those original prints in any form. From Disney or anyone. At least for a really really long time.

I went to see it twice first time in 2D in Cineworld the second time in 3d in Dun Laoghaire. I can't say the second viewing changed my opinion much on the film(decent, no more) other then to say its not worth paying extra to see it in 3d. I'm actually kinda baffled as to why anyone would go to see this, or indeed any movie, more then twice in the cinema.

Kinda like saying ok I've tasted and eaten stew. I don't need to taste it again I know what it tastes like.

I tend to agree about second viewing. I saw it again in 3D. It was worse if anything because it didn't have the same emotional impact on me. I only got shivers down my spine once the second time around :pac:

Well I have never been to Imax before so I figure what better movie to go see?
I have seen it twice in 2D so I don't think it will ruin it for me if I see the 3D.
Guy at work went to see it and said he felt like it was a rehash of the older ones.
I watched a New Hope last night. I love Han and Leia's bickering.
Might watch the other 2 tonight

I love the odd stew . I just wouldn't like to have stew 10 times over such a short period, I'd get sick of it . I actually have no issue with repeat viewings , I'll certainly be watching it again on bluray in 6 months time, I just can't fathom forking out to see any movie that many times in quick succession. Anyways to each their own I guess.

Possibly putting myself on the line here, but here goes...

Prior to this film, i had only ever seen the 2nd trilogy, that is Episodes 1-3. Didn't like them at all. Felt like Twilight in Space (thankfully Twilight came out so i could finally describe my feelings on them). Anyway, in preparation for this one, i decided to watch them all in numerical order, as per a Star Wars nut friend. He was right, after episodes 1-3, things got better. Not a lot, they are all terrible films imo. Maybe it would have been different if i had seen them when i was younger, but i do remember trying once when i was in my early teens, but they just didn't click with me!

Anyway, i eventually went to see this just after the New Year. It is definitely, imo, the best of the 7 so far. That's not to say it's a good film. It's not. It's repeating the same mistakes as the second trilogy, and it baffles me why they went with an angry looking emo teen as the main bad guy again. Like seriously, nobody that i know who likes these films thought it was a good idea for Anakin, why did they think it would be good again...

Full circle, this film did nothing to help me to like Star Wars. Yes, it had fantastic CGI, the people in this could actually act (unlike the first 6 films), and it wasn't as boring or crap as the first 6, but still not a good film. I just don't think Star Wars is for me. Trekkie4lyfeyall!
