I'm still wondering how it could have fell upwards, we saw it fall down towards Bespin. So good luck finding that.

Most likely, it got sucked into one of the same tubes that Luke ended up in, where it was recovered.

Why does everyone keep placing spoilers around their opinions about what might happen ....but here is a massively credible rumour from the ultimatest of rumourey rumour mills
Vader is returning but not until halfway through VIII, I can't say too much more but you're all going to be so blown away with how this happens. Can't waiiiit!
The fact that I spoilered this makes it even more credible b*tches! possibly 1,000,000,000% more than any other rumour here. Better believe it!

Its just a little bit of common courtesy in case any of the many, many rumours turn out to be true. There'd be plenty of people happy to only enjoy officially sanctioned material in the run up to release, without being spoiled by potentially legitimate and deeper spoilers.

Yes I understand this Burby, I know these rumours aren't true so why are posters spoilering them to make them seem legit? Its conspiracy no?
Vader returning but not in the form that you guys think, SW has always been about him and this is most recent evolution, a spiritualised mechanised Sith lord with triple mounted 12 barrel gatling guns and shape shifting abilities.
The marketeers have been observing Transformers in particular, the success of 'mech' genre with younger generation has having a huge influence on the new SW universe. Giving the public want they want is all they do, bless their little hearts!

Like I said, it's jus courtesy in case some are true. Which, given the hype surrounding this film, is entirely likely; someone is bound to have snuck something out from behind the curtain, and spoiler texting protects when the signal to noise is parsed. Its just being nice to other users.

I'm probably alone here, but there is something about JJ Abrams that I just don't like.

Not a great interviewer and dealing with 1000's of thankless fans everywhere, no matter what I do right would leave me despondent about humanity, lol

He did want CBS to stop selling anything related to the original Star Trek series from the 60's and onwards, as he didn't want the soul of the original adventures haunting the new ones. CBS promptly told him got to fcuk himself and laughed him out of the room, so yeah we have some Lucas style revision and arrogance going on here. CBS make massive amounts of money off the merchandise from TOS.

Rumours had it that he wanted a Star Trek series set in the Nu universe and he was getting resistance and hold ups everywhere, they were making it as hard as possible for him to do it, one of the reasons why he was open to doing Star Wars when he was announced as director in 2013.

I always thought the hand and light saber fell from Cloud City when Luke was hanging from the bottom of it.

When that hatch opens and he falls out and grabs on to the aerial, a few objects fall out too, I always thought of those as the hand and lightsaber. I could be completely wrong as his hand was cut off about 5 mins prior to that scene. That could be what I thought of as a kid watching it, and it was stuck ever since.

    That is what happened?

    ^I think so.

Someone said the hand and saber could still be on Cloud City in a tube.

How could a 30 year old hand and even older lightsaber be central to the plot anyways. I'd say its another false rumour.

Weird, I never thought that it was a hand, always thought that it was something that he knocked off the outside of the station. There's definitely nothing in the tube with him anyway.

I really don't think that looks like a hand, maybe a chicken carcass?

Perhaps, but then again, we're talking about Star Wars, directed by JJ Abrams. Anything is possible.

Even a space chicken carcass being central to the plot.

Obviously someone picked it up and froze it in carbonite thinking it might be worth something in thirty or so years.

So I make up something from my head and you want me to spoiler it in case it turns out to be true. Basically Burpy, you want everyone to spoiler or censor the colourful imaginations or artistic contents of their heads as they speculate and generate rumours what the new SW is about.... for your benefit.

Censor? Haha, uh no. I don't want anything, I was simply pointing out a fairly common, unspoken guideline that's easily seen across plenty of the more specialist forums on boards. For example you'll often see it on dedicated TV show threads, where future spoilers and speculation are hidden. I wouldn't read into it anymore than that tbh, nor is it something I or anyone is likely to get too steamed about really. :D

If you want to make something out of your head, go for it, it's not like this film isn't generating enough happy speculation, but in the case of the above rumour, it has been widely reported outside of this site. The veracity can be questioned of course, it they may yet be the wild fantasy of some on-set intern, but it has been one of the more persistent ones. It's all academic anyway, as recent posts have been without spoiler-text, so hey ho it's all gravy!

    Apparently...
The first thing we see in the movie after the text roll is the hand floating in space. I don't think Vader is coming back, concept images of a person holding his helmet (so he's definitely gone) can be seen on a very accurate spoiler site. (Accurate as in they knew the exact contents of the trailer well before its release)

I'll bet ever cent in my bank account that's rubbish about the opening.

Could not see that happening either.

This hand/saber rumour is pure crap. Has to be.

Sorry to blow you right out of the water....
but the 'mechanised' sith lord you see holding Vader's broken helmet is Vader!
    You'll eventually see ;)

Whether or not the movie opens with a hand/saber floating in space (and I would agree it is not going to be the case) might someone suggest who's hand it is and how did it get into space?

If people are suggesting it is Luke's and the hand he lost on Bespin, perhaps someone could explain the laws of gravity in the Star Wars universe, because his hand either falls to the surface of Bespin or is stuck somewhere on the station, not upwards into space...

Thats exactly what I said a few pages back.

To explain, the hand obviously fell upwards. :pac:

I was 14 when ROTJ came out, I'm now older than Harrison Ford was in 1983, that's a long time to wait for another proper Star Wars movie.

I'm going to savour this year and try to avoid having it ruined by spoilers. Why would you, after waiting 32 years for this movie, want to feel like you've already seen it before it's released this December ?
