Some Hollywood dude named Topher Grace apparently cut all 3 prequels down to one 85 minute movie, which was, by all accounts, a big improvement.

So that's what young Eric Foreman is doing these days. I wonder how his father is taking it.

Maybe in years to come, the guy doing the Aliens alternate sequel, will get the gig to redo the Prequels.

The prequels would have their settings moved from Tatooine and Naboo to South Africa in that case

Matt Lanter and the writers for the Clone Wars TV show did a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better job at it.

Instead of him being whiny, petty, by turns gullible and ludicrously paranoid and then randomly murdering a load of children, you instead get the impression of this stern, utilitarian man (not brat) who has a modicum of dignity but has a strong rebellious streak and is often quick to anger (real anger - choking people and stuff; not just whining like a bitch) but is fundamentally brilliant, generous, and good. You see genuine and justifiable estrangement from the Jedi order as the war takes it's toll on their moral foundations and you begin to see how "from my point of view the jedi are evil" could actually start to make sense, with some further development.

Having that Anakin become Vader makes way more sense.

I think what was missing was a proper motivation and the lack of guilt driving his decisions that actually pushed beyond the point of no return - the attack on the Jedi temple, murdering Padme and trying to kill Obi-Wan.

Having Palpatine engineer him killing Padme or some kiddies and making it look like the Jedi's fault and then not having him go full monster-mode until after he'd fallen a bit, lost the fight on Mustafar and got mutilated would've made more sense.

It went - egotist -> asshole -> genuine dyed in the wool lunatic in the space of about 10 minutes.

It should've set the whole fall up over the course of the entire movie and gone for a far more tragic arc then "actually, he's just psychopath".

Have to agree with you about clone wars Anakin. The clone wars did the whole pre original trilogy far better than the prequels.

Went to see Age of Ultron tonight for the sole purpose of seeing the new trailer. They showed the old one. 4 Hours ago and I am still pissed

I'd be pissed too paying full cinema price just for a trailer that might not even show O_O

    Pissed drunk

At least you got to see some sort of a Star Wars trailer, they didn't show anything at my screening. And I still had to sit through 2 hours and 21 minutes of a Michael Bay wannabe movie...

Avengers in 3D in the big (IMAX I think?) screen in Cineworld (Dublin) showed the new Star Wars trailer (with some 3D in it).

Sorry, didn't think to post this at the time.

Hear, hear! I hate watching films in 3D.

From what I've seen at the local cinema, if it's a 3D movie, there normally always is a 2D version of a film on at the same time.

Usually on one of the smaller screens though unfortunately.

It's being converted to 3d, shot natively 2d on 35mm film. Don't worry, there'll be a 2d version, and it will be vastly superior option.

There's one way I want to see this film, and it's in 35mm. I've seen the trailer alongside several digitally-shot trailers recently in the cinema. Force Awakens looks vastly superior - while the Star Wars trailers were undoubtedly afforded some extra grading and care before being unleashed on the world, it already has that classic cinematic look already compared to the more blandly, even crudely shot digital efforts that dominate blockbusters and beyond these days.

Given the minor resurgence in 35mm recently, it would be fantastic to see it in that format if possible. It would give the film's visuals that extra boost, given how fetching it's already looking based on digitally distributed teasers.

Sounds good. Is there a 35mm cinema around?

Forgive my ignorance but does it require a specialised screen? Definitely don't want to deal with 3d, awful stuff.

35mm requires a 35mm projector - once installed in every cinema screen in the country, but now mostly replaced by digital 'upgrades'. Lighthouse and IFI (one of which will not be showing the Force Awkakens) are really the only cinemas actively showing film prints, although there might still be a few smaller cinemas around the country still equipped with film projectors too. Most multiplexes have long since gone fully digital, although I saw a 35mm print of Looper in IMC Dun Laoghaire a few years ago (last I recall accidentally stumbling in a 35mm screening that wasn't advertised that way). Question is will there even be prints made available, but I'd be confident the Lighthouse will get one if so. It's shot on film, it should be shown on film if at all possible.

There's also an IMAX version, but apparently there's only a grand total of one sequence filmed with IMAX cameras. Frankly I'd find that sudden jump in quality and aspect ratio more jarring than anything - I'd ask what's the point, but the extra millions the IMAX version will rake in regardless answers that question ;) Still, at least in any proper IMAX cinemas (outside Ireland) there will be a film print screening, even if it won't take much advantage of the form.

My big worry is that the midnight screenings on opening day will be 3D only. I really don't want to see it in 3D, but I also don't want to miss the buzz and craic a midnight screening will generate. Bah.

I'm the opposite (not about 3D - that can fook off) but regarding the "craic" - I'm planning to wait awhile before I see it, so the cinema is a little quieter / less morons eating nachos etc / less likely to have someone's big head in your way. Maybe an early morning mid week showing.

I actually quite enjoy the 3d experience for the most part, when it's used well. Most definitely watching this in 2d though.

Id like 3D or at least tolerate it if it wasnt for the fact that you have to wear sunglasses in a dark room which make it like trying to watch a film at home in the dark with the brightness and contrast on the tv turned down to 20%, they should really look into fixing that if they want to keep the 3D fad dragging along. Sky have already killed their ridiculous 3D channel and manufacturers are moving away from 3D tvs because nobody wants that crap, it only survives in the cinema because they can force it on people for the extra 10-20% increase in ticket prices.

If I don't see a first showing it will be ruined with the media and people posting story line spoilers.

If I do go to a first screening it will be full of noisy teens shouting/talking

*rant based on couple bad experiences in cinema in Parnell St Dub*

Go to a first showing at night and avoid the internet on the day.
