    Hello there,

My name is Marie, I've just returned to Dublin from Bristol and I'm really keen to get jamming and progressing musically with a band.

I know the thread title looks a bit awkward - I could have just said that I'm a singer-songwriter but I've always felt that I would prefer to have a band behind me, so that I can concentrate on the singing part, which is what I'm best at.

(That's a nice way of saying I'm a bit pants at the auld guitar-playing.)

You're more than welcome to check out my songs on my own website http://www.marieconniffe.com, although bear in mind that they're just solo recordings, so they sound a bit sparse, compared to what they might sound like with some help...

which is where you come in!

I don't know yet what I'm aiming for sound-wise. I have a lot of varied influences - sometimes I like to break the sound-barrier, Janis Joplin-style; other times, I like to take it down and focus a bit more on the lyrics a la Joni Mitchell. It depends on the song, but I do like to keep things dynamic.

So, I really am open to most things at this stage. I suppose, first of all, I'd need a decent guitarist. Then, bass & drums. Maybe keyboards, possibly strings. But, I'll start with whoever knocks first and take it from there.

Please get in touch if you're remotely interested, even if it's just for a bit of feedback,

    Thanks a million,

    Marie

I am interested but i want to know if you have ever taken singing lessons ? and if not, if you are willing to take them ?.
Dont get me wrong you are a good singer....
but there are too many overconfident folk out there who think they are so good they dont need extra specialist assistance,...can u tell me your views on this ....
I am a Multi instrumentalist but singing is something I am not too confident about I might sing in the future I need training i that area myself...
i am considering going out on the road on my own ...but I would prefer to be in a band or a two piece....

Howya - thanks for your input.

As it happens, I have looked into singing lessons in the past. I'll be honest - I don't really think I need them, but in terms of preserving and prolonging my voice, I'm of the opinion that they can't hurt.

After doing a bit of research, I think the best place for me to go would be the Bel Canto School.

    http://www.thesingingschool.com

They seem to have helped people like Sinéad o' Connor so they must be doing something right. The only problem is it's €100 for an assessment (which takes about an hour) and I'm not really in a position to fork out that much at the moment. But, I do plan on giving it a go in the future.

    What instruments do you play?

I am a guitarist very good....at it...play drums and bass guitar also...Hoping to learn keyboards and electro stuff in future.....
    and perhaps other instruments
Listen I think u dont need immediatly to pay money to a Voice coach...
why dont u look up online voice coaching for free online...Like...look at U tube tutorials on U tube and other sites...
like type in google something like
    "Free online vocal coaching"
    or
"Free online health for vocal chords" etc
There are also tricks of teh trade that singersz use to keep thier voice in proper shape when air quality gets too humidy or too cold
I think u need to look at your voice and find out who exactly ( what type of singers) your vocal limitations match most.......I really dont think you are presently any thing like Janis Joplin...could u look at other singers and see...and get a more expert opinion than myself

U NEED TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT VOCAL RANGE YOUR VOICE IS IN

like Sarah Brightman is a very high range while
Maria Callas was such an enigma she could virtually sing in any range.....
