Online Hook-ups

A thread over in LGBT made me think about this, an awful lot of gay men use sites like gaydar, grindr and manhunt to hook-up for No Strings Attached (NSA) sex so much so that it's nearly accepted to do it or at least if you see on a profile "NSA only" or "not into NSA" you know exactly what they mean.

So I'm wondering good people of AH, in particular the straight people and straight women, do straight people do this? and is it just because it's harder for straight people as women are afraid of being branded a slut? I don't mean any offence I just wonder that if you don't do it, does that make gay men more sexually liberated than straight people because they see it as satisfying a physical urge like scratching an itch!!! Oh and I'm not talking about hooking up with someone on a night out and having a one night stand I'm talking about 2 people talking on line agree for one to go to the other's house, they go in strip off have sex, get cleaned up and go home not even sleeping together you know?

So please enlighten me with the views of AH!

OK serious answer -

Something I find quite funny is the stigma that is associated with online dating (for NSA or anything else), yet people seem to find having one night stands with people on night outs perfectly acceptable.

I don't need an App to get laid. Most people have some sort of "fcuk buddy"to rely on, failing that if the itch is bad enough, people will get it scratched.

I would argue that it is possibly easier for a female to initiate and succeed in bedding a randomer than a male.

Someone who I used to work with (who was married at the time) openly discussed the antics of a website called benaughty. She told me that people go on there looking purely for no strings sex and the likes. That people would organise to meet in car parks for a bit of nookie and be on their merry way.

I was really shocked, but it seems its true.

How about changing your poll options. Not all gay people think or act the same way. Some do, some don't.

And yes, gay men are more sexually liberated. Gay sex is taboo itself, so once you get over that taboo, the rest of them are easier to overcome.

But it's not like we're crazed sex fiends or anything. Straight men want sex just as much. Gay men don't have to deal with the same taboos and bull**** though that straight people have constructed about sex.

By that I mean there's lots of straight men who want lots of easy no strings sex. But because a lot of the same guys will call any girl who gives it to them a slut, girls are made to feel like they need to keep their legs shut - even though they might also like the occasional no strings fling.

And gay men are generally more open to the online thing just because it can be a lot harder to meet partners in traditional settings than it is for straight people.

I'm sure a lot of that applies for lesbians too, but lesbian mating habits is not something I'm that knowledgable on.

I don't think it is the same as a lot of my female friends that have had one night stands tend to sleep in the house of the conquest and then go on to somewhat blame the drink.

I'm talking about being sober going into the house of a stranger having sex and straight after going home. So the night out scenario is not relavent really!

Seriously, I spend more time trying to dispell stereotypes about gay people I thought that the one place on the internet where a gay man could be tongue-in cheek would be here on AH. I'm trying to edit the poll if someone could tell me how to do it I would be very grateful!!!

They blame the drink. That doesn't mean the drink made them do it. Drink just gives an excuse/courage to do something they wanted but for whatever reason weren't brave enough to do sober.

In all the years I've been acting the prick, i would never expect any girl to turn up at my door, for a **** straight off the bat, and then leave right away ..

I think the fact that you're not advertising for NSA makes it seem more acceptable. Look at the thread about playing hard to get - some people think a girl is a slut if they have sex on the first night and would not see them again.

Let's face it, in cities etc gay men have a smorgasboard of dick out there available 24/7, especially with the internet etc. It's because they are men, and have dicks. Women's attitudes to sex aren't the same, they're not into pumping away on any old piece of flesh as much as men are. If they were, straight men and women would be having as much NSA sex as gays, group sex, going to dark rooms in saunas etc.

Honestly? I did it a bit when I was single and had fairly mixed experiences. Most were just one-night stands, some ended up as FWB, others weren't able to separate their emotions from sex and it ended quite messily. Never encountered any axe murderers or total psychos though. Worst case was a woman who kept texting me for months afterwards looking for me to rescue her from an abusive marriage despite telling me she was single when we hooked up!
