For a team trying to play structured possession football, where the balls does most of the work, Stevie is not compatible at all. He still believes in running in bursts and covering ground when there is a smart ball to be played between the lines. He should not be the focal point of this team.

It's not even that, if he has to hold onto the ball for more than a couple of seconds he will look for an almost impossible ball which will come off maybe one out of every ten times, rather than play a simple ball in order to hold possession...Shelvey does the same thing.

What we need are players somewhere in between the level of Downing and Gerrard....not constantly playing in sideways/backwards, or trying 'Hollywood' passes, but players who can play it forward and do it simple.

The problem though is that it looks like more senior players are stuck in their ways. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks, Shelvey in fairness will improve in time.

Are people still really giving out about Gerrard?

He's been excellent so far this season.

MOTM against the Mancs, two assists against Everton, assist again tonight.

Also weird how the thread has been relatively dead during our little unbeaten run over the past few weeks but it springs back to life once we we lose a pretty meaningless game with a makeshift team.

I agree it's too late for Gerrard, at this point he might be most useful up front.

its isnt Gerrard's fault everytime we lose a game
its the same thing every time when we lose
Gerrard has played well this season

    On a separate note.

    Sigurdsson.

Did Rodgers make a mistake in not meeting his wage demands based on what he has done at Spurs thus far.

    Yay or Nay?

Van Nistelrooy used to bang in more goals than anyone at United, they were a better side without him though in the long run

it would not be the first time others step out of the shadow of a player who yields far too much influence.

Not saying that it's his fault, he is just at complete odds with what 'The Rodgers' is supposedly trying to do.

Love to see Swansea win the thing.

Be some going from good old days when used to watch them in Division 2 in Vetch.

    ESPN UK @ESPNUK
Liverpool team to face Swansea: Jones, Robinson, Coates, Carragher, Henderson, Shelvey, Allen, Cole, Assaidi, Yesil, Downing
    Cole and Downing?
    ffs.

So Liverpool and Rodgers booted out of the only competition they could realistically challenge for this season and by an average Swansea side to boot.

Surely questions are going to be asked now about his tenure when this result is combined with his poor league form.

Rodgers talks a good game but that's about it IMO. He's not up to bringing Liverpool back to 4th/5th place, never mind title challengers.

I'm not getting my hopes up for that again, think he has just been keeping a low profile since the Sahin embarrassment.

Gerrard has been bad as much as he's been good.

I think it's about maximising what each player gives us. I think Gerrard is a liability in midfield. He's offering quality at times but he's always leaving holes and giving the ball away to a degree. When he also isn't playing well we're getting nothing in return for that.

I really think that until Lucas gets back we need to stop giving the whole job to Allen because that isn't his game and he's nowhere near as effective.
We need to give him a pet Henderson to run around for him and do a bit more of the donkey work. He's done well every time he's played as a defensive midfielder this season.
He's happy to work his arse off, he doesn't lose the ball and every now and again, when an opportunity arises that he just can't ignore, he tries to inject a bit of quality.

Move Gerrard either to the right of Suarez or as the CF.

It feels like we're playing in a way that would be great if we had more goals but there's nothing we can do to get better at scoring goals at the moment.
What we can do is batten down the hatches and stop conceding goals.
I think that's primarily a problem of tactics.
