Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can 99.9999% assure u that ain't the case..but better to get the 0.00001% confirmation from studentservices directly! what u need to become qualfied is pass exams, complete ca diary, complete training contract...there is no mention at all of attendance in institute's fae rules and regulations doc available on website as far as I'm aware

Really stupid question here everybody. Attendance at lectures- is there a requirement to attend X% of lectures in order to pass the FAE's????

Spoke to a guy who did them in 2011 and said that you need to attend and sign in for at least 50% of all lectures as part of the passing requirement!!!

I suspect its nonsense but I'm looking for someone to assure me its not true because I'm well below that at the moment!!

Who told you that. I dont even want to know. It's not true

For anyone repeating, how much study leave are you planning on taking? Im still in my training contract, not sure how much I should ask for

I read somewhere on the CA site, can't remember where, that attendence is not a requirement for passing. They Introduced the system this year for research purposes.

Also wondering - I got an email in the student portal pasted as follows:

"Please find attached thje notes which accompanied the Online Study Skills session given by Rebecca Greene on the 28th of March; the lecture is available online and on-demand under FAE-General in the Recorded Sessions tab of your student portal."

For some reason the power point document that was attached to the email will not download - can anybody upload it here, would be much appreciated :)

They couldn't take attendance into consideration, seeing as how a fairly large portion of the students (including myself) work out of Dublin for, sometimes long, periods at a time. Also, I know of people who have passed the exams, having attended absolutely no lectures. Don't worry about it.

Don't think they're being circulated until everyone has completed the case study day (think the last one is on 27th June). Will probably be put on the website then.

Go through Sean murrays lectures online and follow his notes. Thats is the only way to pass. Throw the book in the bin , its crap.

Do questions and you will ace it.

IF you fo exactly what Sean Murray says you will pass it really quickly! otherwise die tryin!

hi all.. anybody know some good real life examples of change management in practice? ive tried (albeit not hard enough) to search for evidence online of case studies in change management but evidence seems to be rather scattered.. the example in gerry gallagher's text is cra* as well from perspective of application of principles (though an interesting story otherwise)

During my study leave last year I averaged about 3 hrs study per day, mostly cases. Consistency and technique are the key.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭srm23

is there a bank of cases here I could download, just want an idea of what cases everyone is doing.

I have the integrated pack given out by the institute at the start of the year,
what other cases are people looking at, the ones from the books or others?

    cheers

as in 3 hours total? or? sorry just trying to get idea?

Yup, most of my time was spent on boards b*tching about the exams and the cases. My timetable was thus:

    Wake up
    Gym
Attempt case study - review answer take out relevant points
    Eat
Go to park - train some more
Attempt case study 2 - review answer take out relevant points
    Chill

It's all about deducing what you are being asked and thinking on your feet. Linking all the stuff together so it makes one coherent answer that makes sense in the context of the overall case. Learning off reams and reams of theory won't really help so I saw no point in studying from morning til night. Have a concise summary i.e Deloitte notes - with your added notes on things that are important to watch out for and you are golden. Now granted I wasn't in the top 10 in the country but I passed both and looking back had a fantastic time on study leave.

so did you go straight into integrated cases rather than doing the Derry Cotter FR cases etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭ferike1

Those could have been any kind of case that we had tax/fr/apm. Tried a few of those MABF ones but they were too hard so I stopped. Oh and I also only used two of the institutes textbooks - the APM and the tax one. The rest imo aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I got my hands on ACCA notes and some good strategy books to supplement the deloitte notes with extra points.

Yeah it would be handy if someone could put up a pack showing Q/Sol Q/Sol Q/Sol

I am TERRIBLE on organisation. This would be so much better if someone just handed you one bound copy of notes per subject, said study that and read the SBP every week, good luck.

    I am swimming in notes!

In any event, you can on to previous FAE threads here and a number of cases are attached. Some very helpful boardsies out there aswell.

Ye I think I missed a few lectures and I am afraid cases were handed out in the lectures.

Someone attached a list of cases a few pages back and I don't have half of them. Should all 2013 cases be online or were they handed out on lectures?
