Our votes used to be punch card things and would then be slid into an envelope, placed in a ballot box and taken to the county seat. They were counted there. Now we have electronic ballot booths and it is much easier. Old and young use them without much of a problem. Less of an opportunity for fraud.

I know they count by hand in Florida. A friend of mine lives there and was complaining about it, apparently they didn't bring in e-voting because there's so many elderly people and they wouldn't understand it.

Florida's messed up voting machines gave us George W Bush as President :(

Romney takes an early lead winning in Indiana and Kentucky, Obama wins Vermont.
Don't know about Indiana but that is based on 1% of vote being counted in Kentucky.

Have to say there has been alot of pro-obama celebrity videos/endorsments thus far in this election.

Wil Ferrel, Jay-z, Sarah Silverman, Joss Whedon, Chris Rock, The Simpsons ... meh I could go on.

Do they use electronic voting in all US states? Are there any states where votes are counted by hand like here in Ireland?

In the states that votes are still cast on paper like here,a computer still counts the paper votes anyway apparently. They were just talking about it on RT there a few minutes ago.

Wish they would just give the results and get rid of the annoying Republican panelists. They are starting to irritate me now.

Anybody watching through fox news.. Ohio's count is coming in 10 mins.. whether its a rep or a demo result, its gonna be entertaining to watch!

Especially with early indications from Florida pointing towards an Obama win. He takes both and he'll be very hard stopped.

GOP poll in Ohio allegedly had Obama up 4 points during the weekend... if that's accurate, its all over!

That's when polls close, not when the count is in. Ohio will be too close to call on exit polls.

Here comes Ohio. Romney really needs a win here.

That would be an exceptional night for Obama, we could all go to bed safe in the knowledge even the networks couldn't call it wrong.

Paddy Power latest odds: Obama 1/5 Romney 7/2

NBC says six states have closed polls but say votes in all of those states are too close to call at this point. Also provisional ballots are not counted until 11 days after the regular vote. If the count is close it may take more time and there have been some glitches.

    West Virginia - Romney

Exit Polls on CNN have NC dead heat and Obama carrying Ohio 51-48.
