Was reading about it earlier. Don't get how there's so much coverage for it. It's just a kid saying something, she'd be too young to even realise what any of this presidential campaign is about. Then adults chiming in saying they are tired of it as well. Well fúck me, why don't they disband democracy already?

America is such a vast place with completely different cultures and beliefs...basically half sane, tolerant, intelligent people...half religious, gun swinging nut-jobs
    Dear Red States…

We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren’t aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon,Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss. We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a
    bunch of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy b*****ds believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

By the way, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

    Peace out,
    Blue States

American Politics. Who looks the best. Who is for abortion, who is against abortion. Which one won the debate I'll vote for him. He's black I'll vote for him. He's black I wont vote for him. Romney is a republican who will most likely ruin America in the long run with his pro capitalism funding from oil and car companies. Obama is a socialist who will cause anarchy and not help with economic recovery.

You only get two choices in the land of freedom. :)

Better than no real choice at all, which is what you have in Europe, where parties so often have to compromise and sit in the political centre in order to form coalitions. I like the idea of having two clearly defined ideologies and parties presented to me so that I can choose the lesser of two evils (USA), rather than a squabbling carnival of many small evils (Ireland and Italy spring to mind).

Lex Luthor all the way. A self made billionaire who still cares about the people. Those liberals in the Daily Planet don't know what they're talking about! This is the problem with a free press. So, Lex was impeached in his last term. But who hasn't broken a few federal laws on the way? I mean he gets the job done, doesn't he? Those off the book deals with the tyrant Darkseid of Apokolips were misconstrued, we needed Apokoliptian weapons to keep America safe.

And as for Superman...if that is even his real name. What's an illegal alien doing poking his nose into American affairs anyway? Go back to Krypton. Destroyed you say? A likely story.

So if you believe in Truth, Justice and the American Way. Vote Lex Luthor in 2012. You know it makes sense.

Hopefully, Obama wins. I think it would be a disaster if Romney were to be elected

Obama hasnt exactly been a runaway success.

The fact that the republicans have a reasonable shot at regaining the presidency after 8 years of George W should tell you everything you need to know about the last 4 years

Oh, I'd agree with you. It's just that I think he's the lesser of two evils.

But he's been a failure as president. Why should a failed president be re-elected?

There's appears to be very little dfference in both candidates anyhow

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Unless Obama took a dump on someone's face who was lying with limbs missing after the storm he's not got to worry about NJ/NY.

You said (or rather Corvus Maximus said):
If turnout is affected by this [the weather], then it could really benefit Romney in an already very close race.

How would a lowered turnout in Obamacentric states benefit Romney in any way, assuming that those who do still turn up vote along the same lines? Does the number of people who vote in an individual state affect the overall outcome?

    Failure is a bit much.

What did he achieve to deserve his election?

    and

How many notable successes or achievements has he had since taking office?

Winning the noble peace prize (which was a bigger joke than the EU winning it) and killing Osama are the only achievements he's had

    Why isn't there a poll?

Apologies, misread the other lad. :pac: As it happens though the enthusiasm for each candidate is very different so yes the number of people who vote can make a significant difference, recently Democrats will probably try harder to vote and generally vote earlier etc.

It's not a question of racism, people are just blind to his shortcomings and mistakes due to getting caught up in the huge historical occasion of having the first black president.....

well it really depends on what you are and are not willing to give him credit for

    e.g

back in early 2009 when the stock market was tanking the right were blaming it on obama polices http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/03/04/cafferty-pres-obama-to-blame-for-stock-market%E2%80%99s-fall/ of course now that its at 13,000+ obama policies have nothing to do with it ;)

when obama took office the private sector was losing 1 million jobs a month in the us, last 32 months has seen a increase in jobs every month in the private sector, thats an incredible turnaround http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wmv-KOY8FKA/UIHfirDnXdI/AAAAAAAALx4/HNQSsb9Zrfc/s1600/31st+Month+of+Job+Growth+Chart.jpg

Erm, except where an Incumbent HAS to run unless they themselves step down from office.

Iran / Israel and Syria - if not handled properly could lead to WW3 (removes tinfoil hat).

America is decades ahead of every other country when it comes to military technologies, having some clown at the helm of this doesn't bode well for everyone, no matter how many policies are in place (Look at Afghanistan/Iraq)

The world is a big global field economically, with agriculture, oil, transport etc. So if the USA did have a massive slump with their economy, there would be a massive knock-on affect in import/export prices, jobs etc.

    And the list goes on.

Exactly the world is still trying to recover from the USA's sub-prime housing crash. When the USA sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold.

I will be watching the Fox news coverage. I am looking forward to the reactions of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity when Obama wins. It will be TV gold.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,485 ✭✭✭Thrill

Wouldn't miss it. Fox should be fun but all the big American news corps go way over the top and Sky will be right there alongside them with their own version.

Entire walls filled with huge screens, virtual studios with stupid names and so on.

The us networks turn it into a eurovision like vote. "and now we go to houston for the texas vote, hello houston!".....and tiffany is there with her baps out, "hello america"

    its bloody entertaining....

also hope to god obama wins....republicans terrify me.

Maybe, I'd view the rise and fall of the Tea Party as more important, those crazies see Romney as a sell out but will still vote for him.

Romney is viewed by many as an example of the American dream, The 47% should be scoffed at, most of that 47% pay taxes, just they are on low wages or are war veterans, stuff like that.

Romney will then give out about high wage costs and financially back moving American companies to China. Romney wants low wages and then berates those who work for low wages for not paying enough taxes, from his pulpit financed by Millions of dollars of corporation revenue.

THe American dream is fine, nothing wrong with it, but its a lottery, don't punish people for not winning the lottery.

Obama isn't perfect, gets Millions from the same sources, but I know which guy has his heart in the right place.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

I'd like to see Romney win, although I'd have favoured Ron Paul, but he was never really going to win the nomination.

It seems increasingly unlikely, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.
