Are you wondering how to maintain your motivation to get out on your bike or run after the clocks change? Do you like exploring off-road in the hills or even an urban environment? Does a race that is a little bit different and as challenging as you want to make it sound like fun?

Then taking part in one or more of the rounds of the CCAR Winter Adventure Race Series could be just the thing for you.

With the first round taking place on Saturday 24th November on the North Coast just outside Limavady, this is 3-6 hours of mountain biking, running (or trekking), kayaking and navigation. Each event is different but as a guide you could be running for 10km, biking for 35km and kayaking for 2-3km.

This event is not like a normal race. For a start, you choose whether you want visit all the control points or not, each race has a certain about of bonus controls, which you can choose to miss out. You'll also not be on your own as all the events are team based, you'll need to have one other team mate with you at all times.

At registration you will be given a high quality map showing a number of control locations. When your time starts counting down, you find out how much each control is worth. Your job is to collect as many points as possible before your time runs out!

This is the first race in a national winter series run by CCAR, who are renowned for their high calibre events. Teams from all over Ireland have already entered the 1st round.

Online entry for the first round can be found here.

I did a couple of them last season - great fun. Back for more. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the kind words of support folks, the CCAR team are gearing up for this years season of races. I'll be out on the ground making some final tweaks to the route tomorrow. Really looking forward to this one as it takes us back to our roots, this is the same area that we run our very first race back in 2006. As normal from us the race route will not be the same, expect 10km worth of running, 35km worth of biking and at least 2-3km worth of kayaking, if you're a really fast team expect a few extra km to be added on if you want to feature in the leading teams.

Great race yesterday in Black Lion. Lovely part of the country. Very imaginative secret tasks - must read the rest of that book! :D

Former glad you enjoyed yet another CCAR event. More tasks in the next round which is now taking online entries. Maybe we could use another page from the book ;)
