Can you provide a direct link to that please?

I had a look at the Irish Avaiton Authority's website and I can't see where to get figures for Waterford.

CAA is the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

IAA is the Irish Aviation Authority and does not do passenger statistics.

On mobile will get link later.

My dad flew back to UK from Waterford last weekend, very impressed with it all. Ideal for him as his mobility is severely limited now. Assistance was a bit ad hoc but much friendlier than assistance in UK.

Plane showed it's age he said but very pleasant flight and he also appreciated the cup of tea and pastry on board. If his health lasts enough to come over again he said he'd definitely fly into Waterford instead of Dublin.

Fingers crossed for the people of Waterford and the South East the airport is a long term success.

25 out this morning, 35 on the way back. Numbers haven't been great last couple of weeks though so hopefully people of Waterford/South East get behind it and continue to use the service.

Any idea what the break even on a Fokker 50 is? I have read 1/4 of capacity on some guides. They are cheap to run and maintain so a midweek flight with 25 - 40 people on it would not be bad.

The Sukhoi jets VLM want to buy are in profit after 50 seats are filled I think

14 would see around right, If I remember the ATR72s required 24/72 to break even. The fares see good as well so it should be fine.

35/50 is decent and I think they will be happy if they get that or above on all flights.

From waterford airport website - a good idea.

A new 'Pro Pass' programme from VLM Airlines now offers frequent flyers on the Waterford-Luton and Waterford-Birmingham services great value return fares of under €150.

A set of vouchers for six return flights on the popular routes can now be purchased for €898 with the flight vouchers valid for use over a six-month period.

Good idea for businesses. Last minute return flights for €150 will keep the accounts department happy!

It may have been mentioned here, but I'm not sure, but the new Secretary General for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is a Waterford man and the former CEO of Waterford Airport - Graham Doyle.

Don't know him personally but always felt he did great work as the Airport CEO.

He was kind of working with his hand tied behind his back I suppose considering runway length. Flybe where a massive coup to get them in when he did. Big airline with big route network, would love to see them back but they have bigger fish to fry it would appear!

parish pump policies, will we ever learn?

parish pump policies, will we ever learn?

Well this is not the politics forum, but how many people vote for their local candidate with a view to the national picture?

Also, the art of lobbying is massive in decision making. Waterford Airport and the huge number of different interest groups who need decision would be in to Government Depts. like Finance, DPER, Transport etc. looking to influence policy.

If you've someone who's already familiar and possibly positive towards your cause and from your area, you're lobbying effort might be a little easier.

    and
Secretary General for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport
    Are incompatible positions.

Granted lobying is to be expected from local politico's to the relevant minister.

The Secretary general of any department is supposed to put the big picture first.

They are not elected but are supposedly selected as the best person for the role.

If any senior civil servant started to give preferential treatment to one group then they should go.

They are there to represent ALL our interests and act as a break to some of our typical ministerial "pet projects".

You'll find that senior civil servants are humans and have opinions.

Furthermore, ministerial 'pet projects', or Government Policy as it's sometimes called, will be presented to civil servants who then figure out the details.

Building the sustainability of the current routes and then we may see Manchester back as it's the next obvious route.
