Don't know if I am or not :P My work experience put me off it, but I would rather go in to something where I can get a qualification of sorts at the end. Plenty of thinking to do..

I want to do Irish and French but really don't wanna go the arts route . is UL Applied Languages the only option for me?
Course looks great and all but I live in Donegal :/
Is it worth the trek? Should I just do it through arts? Or do applied langs in DCU without Irish? (It'd be a handier option but I'd miss Irish so much)

Gon someone decide for me, cheers.

I find it fascinating that RCSI require Irish it being probably the most international college in Ireland, but are you sure that if you've an exemption from Irish in school you have an exemption from Irish for Matriculation? Maybe it's worth sending an email to the admissions office? That is of course if you really are bothered with going to RCSI, truthfully it is last on my list of med schools I applied to :L

Yeah I have the exemption for matriculation, says so on my CAO anyway:D

Ok so Law people, what you aiminig for points wise and which law courses?
I think lots of people have put it down now so demand is gone up not down as previously announced :(

Put down law plus.. Any idea if points will go up or down for that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 163 ✭✭wow exuberant

Is it true that the points are based solely off of the person with the fewest points who got into the course the year previous?

That doesn't make sense to me, can't find any answers online

The points are based solely off the person with the fewest points who got into the course this year, not the year previous. If the points released say it was 500 points for science, that means that the person with the least amount of points who made it into that course this year had 500 points.

How many people here are going for Primary Teaching? What way do ye think the points will go based on what your Guidance Teachers have been saying? How many points are ye aiming for? Im relatively certain If Pats goes down to 465, Marino will go to 460 and Maynooth and Mary I will be at 465 also. I think I have more of a chance of getting into Marino than Pats tbh. I'm aiming for 495.

No, the points for the course reflect the lowest points with which someone will get in *this* year ... which is why no-one can tell you what the points for this year will be in advance.

The answer is in your CAO handbook! :)

I am anyway.. But you know that already :o There's actually a fair amount of people on boards that are going for primary teaching

According to the CAO stats first preference applicants for primary teaching are down 8% this year. They fell 4% last year and points for Pats and Mary I came down to 470 and Marino stayed at 465. So you'd think they're going to come down again although it might not be as simple as that. With the drop being as big as it was (8% is a massive drop like!) people who might have thought that the points for teaching were too high before might think that now it's in reach with the expected points drop... if that makes any sense at all!

And anyway, if you get that 495 you'll be safe whatever happens! :)
