Great 12Z GFS. Incredible snow potential in FI. It looks like an Atlantic washout, but then you look at the 850 temps and we are under cold enough air for it to be a whiteout instead of a washout.

Great potential, lets hope the good setup before that wasn't an outlier and then all eyes to the ECM.

Weathercheck, where art thou? He should be all over this like a rash.

Don't get too excited!! All the good stuff is in FI = Fantasy Island. It's highly unlikely to verify like that. We were looking at epic charts this time last week that never happened. The good news is that the GFS is at the moment moving in the right direction, so if we are lucky there will be the potential for something to get excited about, maybe.

We need to see a major improvement in the ECM in about an hour though.

In anticipation of an epic ECM run, there is a movie on SyFy Channel now called "Arctic Blast"

Its worth a watch!!

FI? - Highly unreliable charts several days in the future, Fantasy Island, because its not gonna happen.

ECM - European weather model

GFS - American weather model

and also explain 12z gfs etc...... - 12:00 Zulu time run of that model, models usually have 2 or 4 runs a day

12Z GFS was a cold outlier on the 19th/20th. Shocking. :P

Good ensembles overall though. The mean even manages to dip below -5 again 13 days from now.

Very interesting!! The fact the model itself is not too bad just but the initialization data compared to the ECM that throws it out sometimes.
