mods might need to set up new threads to diffrrentiate forecasts from now casts. Congrats to all with snow. bring it on!

In fairness this is the 'Let it snow' thread :D
Nice to see some actually falling 'here' rather than forecasts, especially since this thread seems to have become the model thread for the past week or so and kind of less fun

Misty overcast, light rain stopped and 1C . The absolute worst type of weather.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Dew points are rising above 0, thats why its turning to rain.

Just went outside and it's actually still sleeting here in Meath, thought it was rain but the ground has a thin layer of slush on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Lucreto

No snow in Naas, just rain.

Interesting that it is snowing today when it is meant to be less cold, encouraging for coming days if today is meant to be milder. Bring it on

Just goes to show even with unimpressive 850 temps you can get snow here at low levels as long as the dew point isn't above freezing.

Woke up to sleet falling, this has since turned to wet snow! quite a surprise, and nice to see.. I was beginning to think I wouldnt see a single flake all winter the way things were looking up till a week ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,197 ✭✭✭pad199207

the light snow eventually stopped here and its just sleet now, until next time!

i think it's inevitable now we will see a return of the atlantic for at least a few days late next week- there is just too much energy in the Canadian piece of the vortex for systems not to make it far enough across to erode heights to the north, we just have to hope the progged second stratospheric warming in this region squeezes the life out of the vortex in this region, which could then enable heights to build over Greenland.

good to see some people got a bit of snow today anyway . hopefully there will be more before the likely change late next week.

Starting raining at 2.5C and a dewpoint of 0.5C

Now raining at 2.3C and 0.0C dewpoint.

None of God's dandruff this time around.

What approximately are the 850 temps at the moment do you know?

In a front yes.Its very rare though.
Obviously the air that precip fell through was freezing all the way down to the surface with warm air not being as fast as usual to ride over the top of the surface cold air,it did after only 30 mins for most though.

As rare as hens teeth at those 850's as usually fickle surface night time cold gets washed away.
Snow happened at -2 850 temps at times during the Nov Dec spell as we had enough surface cold of our own to in a proper prolonged way do what's happened this morning and as the flow was weak east,we weren't importing higher dew points.
