Really looks like tomorrow evening Thursday the mild air is going to make it right across the country.

Latest NAE is a big shift east :(

Does that have implications for Sunday WC?

A 1947 event would be epic, but i'v heard too many horror stories about flooding after the rapid thaw and severe rains with it. Be careful what you wish for.

The thing is the snow lasted on the hills longer according to my father and an odd person in the city would be having a bit of fun with the people from the hills who still had the snow, with comments like 'I see ye still have the snow up there', kinda of in a way to suggest it was great the snow was gone from the city, but they would be told they would get it all in water yet and as your picture showed, they sure did.
Read reports of the rivers in the city rising by several metres to cause the worst flooding in living memory at the time.
The flood defenses would be under very severe pressure if ever there was a repeat.

he seems to think that we'll only have marginal amounts of snow in the very east and north........Sat into Sun.

BUT he does think the cold spell could potentially last until 10th Feb!!!!

I just gotta get me some snow!

I see your over on NW Matty , but just to calm a few jittery nerves here :

NB Latest NAE progression across to meridian with PPN Thursday rejected for now and operational version heavily modified - in case anyone looks at raw stuff and starts hyperventilating. However.... Chief awaiting next UKMO-GM to be sure, so we await confirmation on expected evolution. Atlantic push of milder air much faster on new NAE through Thursday, hence much to play for in terms of broader evolution thereafter IF the NAE prog has any validity. At the moment

So far, 12Z GFS is an upgrade for Friday for the UK at least. Maybe for the NE here, but very marginal and could very easily change again on the 18Z.

I have nothing to add to this thread so I'm going to oil the wheels on the rollercoaster. We need the next run to go smooth.

I think that Northern/North Eastern Areas might gather a few scraps from this - 5cm or so possible. Not a bad run so far.

12Z UKMO at 72 hours is even better for the northeast/east.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    12z are GOOD.

    We can still hope.

Prospects of some disruptive snow in the north and east Friday.

We just want a tad more of the cold push west to seal the deal.

    A nail biter.

A major event for the UK possibly?

GFS again keen to bring in that cold air from the west on Sunday.

    gfs-3-126.png?12
    gfs-1-126.png?12

Which again could be a messy mix of rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain.

Could be quite a lot yes. Hard to know with changes on every run and between models.

Day 8. The cold kept fighting back on this run, just some milder blips. -12 uppers almost reaching Scotland.

Wicklow had ten foot in places where you could only see the tops of sign posts. I will try and dig out photos. However wicklow mountains and dublin mountains are no strangers to massive snow falls or extreme temperatures. 2008/2009/2010 in particular but massuvevfslls in 80 and 90s as well.
