    Hey,

I have a samsung T220 (22" ). I have the opportunity to buy a old (2005) 24" 1920x1200 monitor, the AL2416W. From the old reviews, this is a good monitor. Would it be good now compared to a 2011/2012 24" 1920x1200 LCD?

I primarily want the bigger screen and resolution. If the image quality could be comparable to more recent TN panels then I will buy it. Its currently selling for 145 euro but could probably get it for less.

    Kai.

While I like 16:10 better than 16:9 (which is all the rage these days), €145 is quite expensive for a 7 yrs old Acer monitor, for 10 yoyos more, you'll get a brand new 24" Samsung at Komplett (delivered).

I think I would appreciate 16:10 alot more. I will keep looking for second hand 1920x1200's.

Well, your best chance then is 2nd hand or some old stock if you're lucky. Panel makers have 16:10 pretty much retired now. But I wouldn't pay more than 100 yoyos for a 2nd hand monitor, unless it's a top class monitor, like a Dell UltraSharp.

And check for dead pixels before you buy 2nd hand, Dead Pixel Tester is a "portable" test program that can be run from a USB stick.

It has to be a 1920x1200. For the same price I could get a Shimian 27" but having the card to run it is like another 300 euro. Im in the process of selling loads of things to try and raise the money, but a 1920x1200 monitor and a 7850 to go with it, its about 300 euro. The Shimian and a 7950 would be 600 euro.

Anyway, thats a different story. Thanks for the input Torqay. You gave me with Anand and Toms Hardware could not :)

You're looking for a gaming monitor obviously, which narrows the choice even more. ;)

I'm looking at two 28" 1920x1200 monitors, fed by an embarrassingly cheap HD 4350, but then I'm not much of a gamer, the most demanding task would be 4 windows of Diablo 2* ... not exactly a challenge. ;)

*Which reminds me, there's a ladder reset tonight, but first I'm off for some Champions League action, laters. ;)
