Not an Irishism but an Americanism..
When looking at a menu and about to order food "You all set?"
When finishing any course in a restaurant... "You all set?"
When paying in any restaurant..."You all set?"

    Why????

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger....eh, can't see getting knocked down by a bus making me much stronger!

Also, people spouting on about how they gave 110% - that REALLY winds me up!

"Ah sure you'll be grand", when you're nervous/ill/in a difficult situation. It's meant well, but infuriates me.

MIL telling me my kid has lovely "mousey brown" hair, when the picture it conjures up for me is that of an ugly dead country mouse. Is mousey brown hair supposed to be a nice thing
I'm French so sometimes these things are just too hard to figure.

Meant well? As far as I see it, it means "I don't really care and can't think of anything to say that would be of any help"

If you eat the cake you won't have it anymore. You can't keep it if you eat it. It will be gone. No cake.

    Your explanation makes perfect sense.

The expression would also make perfect sense if it was "You can't eat your cake and then have it back again."

It's a clumsy, inelegant expression, often used in the context of a smug retort.

    I don't like it.

    Shopkeeper "Are you OK/alright"

    Grrr.

At one point I started simply stated "Yes" and continued to look them square in the eye until they stammer "Can I help you?" or the like.
I then say "That's better" and ask for what I want.

Sometimes yes, other times it's meant to be supportive and reassuring without committing oneself. Still useless to me if I'm in a strop though.

I use most of the terms in here quite a bit. The thing that stands out to me most about these threads is the realisation that somebody will dislike a turn of phrase that another uses every time a conversation between a few people is had in real life.
