BoI in Dunleer the same, staff available on Mondays and Fridays rest of the week self service with a feckin machine, agree the banks are a complete joke and all the trouble they have caused, they should be welcoming people with mugs of tea and slippers.

IMO, the banks still have plenty of staff.... they just don't make them available to serve customers (you know, the ones that pay their wages, bailed them out and made sure their pensions would be ok)

I've often been in AIB Clanbrassil Street when there are two tellers on... trying to do a good job with long queues and, meantime, anything up to 12 AIB staff will be drifting around walking from A to B using with a cup of something. THe problem is with management not the staff

I was told by a friend who works in banking that there is a method in their madness - the bigger the queues and inconvenience of going to a bank branch the more people will use online banking and therefore can justify even greater service and branch cutbacks...makes sense when nearly all banks are doing the same

    used to work for aib.

Its all aimed at etting people to use the online services/kiosks in the branch.

To be fair there is feck all you need to be going to the bank counter for nowadays other than cashing cheques.

The idea is less staff on th front line = more available in the back for cold calling/looking after business customers etc etc.

Really its just they aren't bothered with small customers

It would be ok it they were getting rid of some of the staff to reduce costs, but to put them in the back for cold calling etc is another kick in the teeth

    this pretty much.

As much as they like to think it, the people going to the counter to lodge/withdraw money from their accounts and other such things arent profitable for the bank whatsoever.

The profits are made in the back pushing loans/crdit cards mortgages etc down the throats of people who are barely getting by as it is.

Some of the stuff i could tell you you just wouldn't believe, and i was fairly low down on the ladder so god knows whats going on higher up!
