Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After a long night on the aul hooch, ye often find yerself hanging to bits the next morning. I, myself, rarely get hangovers anymore, when I do I find nothing will cure it except a few panadol and back to bed, I can't even stomach a sugary drink or water or toast.

So fellow boardsies, what cures the aul morning after for ye??

Sorry mods if this has been done already, feel free to lock / merge.

water, and plenty of it. a hangover is dehydration and your body being poisoned bu alcahol. the headache is your brain shrivelling up and pulling away from the inside of your skull so drink plenty of water

    Lots of water ....

"A hair of the dog that bit ye". That would kill me though, so:
Paracetamol and lots of vits and herbal tea, some toast too.

Half a dozen neuron plus nothing quite like a codine come down to take you're mind off a hangover.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,515 ✭✭✭✭admiralofthefleet

    you could also try-

a scottish breakfast (a glass of water and a paracetamol)

a farmers breakfast (a glass of water and a shite)

or a scousers breakfast (a pint of lager and the leftovers of last night's takeaway)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭CardBordWindow

A pint of water, followed by some nice tea and toast(or a fry if I can get my hands on it). Depending on severity of the headache, either some paracetamol, or morphine.

You're supposed to drink 1.5x in water for every unit of alcohol you consume in order to stay hydrated, and a hangover is a result of the brain being dehydrated. So usually when I get home I'll by multiplying what I drank by 1.5. Polishing off 6/7 pints of water in the space of a half hour isn't fun but I definitely am not as bad the next morning. A vitamin C tablet in one of the pints seems to work well too.

Well Done ! Not many people can self-administer let alone want to.

I used to never get hangovers, literally not even the slightest headache after a massive piss-up. It lasted up til my early 20s. I wish I knew what it was because I get them now. Maybe just youth and fitness, I didn't have any remedies or special breakfasts

Get out of bed. Worst thing you can do is toss and turn in the leaba feeling sorry for yourself.

Sugary tea, fry up and soluble disprin for me.

I used to sleep in till two or three in the day after a session. Discovered though that it effects your sleep patterns the following night and you almost feel hungover the following day too. So now I have taken to getting up early-ish and keeping myself hydrated and well-fed all day. It has seemed to have done the trick.

The "cure" on a Sunday afternoon seems also to be effective.

Yeah, I'd most likely die of water poisoning soon after doing that

Does anyone else not really get hung over no matter how which they drink?

I might wake up a bit groggy but I'm doing perfect after I've eaten and had a pint of milk/water

Give it 5 -10 years and you'll get hangovers.

Do you often piss the bed after a feed of pints and cant figure out why?

In a bid to combat hangovers, I've taken to drinking larger shandies. The healing properties of red lemonade work wonders. Granted, it does make me bladder work overtime but hey! I can stretch 4 cans of Bud into about 10 drinks!

    Sugary Drink
Panadol when I get in the door after a night out, a pint of water, Ginger tea in the morning along with plenty of water.

    Panadol etc
The only thing that will actually cure you/prevent the hangover if you start early enough is more drink. Hence why its called "the cure". Even one with lunch for instance will make you feel that bit better.

If "the cure" isn't an option, then a breakfast roll/fry, some coke/lucozade etc and plenty of water will eventually help. Getting outside as hard as it is usually helps too.

I find panadol etc only make your stomach feel worse and would never take one unless my head was epically sore.

a farmers breakfast (a glass of water and a shite)

or a scousers breakfast (a pint of lager and the leftovers of last night's takeaway)

Or the tinkers breakfast - a piss, a fag, and a look around.

Seriously though, crispy bacon sandwich and lucozade orange. End of discussion.

    some greasy and carby food.

    a beer.

go out in the fresh air.

Even in my advancing years - 4 or 5 pints hardly constitutes a "feed" does it? Doesn't sound much like fun downing 7 pints of water after 5 pints of beer.

Nope. I've never been the sort of person who wakes up in the middle of the night needing to piss either.

I was on a stag a while ago, and one of the lads had a packet of diorilyte. Took one before going to bed, and one when he got up.
Not a sign of a hangover!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

    Panadol etc
The sensible option is to rock on through and slowly wean yourself off it the next day, until tiredness takes over and you have to sleep. You should wake up the next morning after a lengthy sleep feeling relatively normal, if a little bit sad.

Failing this, if you've not made it through and woken up struggling the morning after, try 2 solpadeine, an Alka Seltzer and a Berocca boost dissolved in one glass of water, followed about a half an hour later by a fry up and some strong coffee. Get through that without puking and there won't be much wrong with you!

A few cans the morning after always gets me straight.
