There's really nothing to beat Mitchell House in town.

I doubt you'll be disappointed with there.

Inch House is by far the best restaurant in the area, you'll have to book in advance but it won't be beaten for food or service www.inchhouse.ie

have you read the op? He/she is working here for a few days. hardly looking for the likes of chez hans to quell the hunger pangs.

unless you're working for IBRC......in that case you can take us all to inch house;)

Maybe they can stick their dinner down as expenses! Didn't see any mention of a budget in the OP, it asked to recommend some good restaurants not some middle-of-the-road ones. Supermacs does a mean quarter pounder if you want to go down that road.

so you'd think if 'the indian near the train station' is being considered by the op, the op is in the market for the full shebang in Inch house?

The Shimla is the name of the Indian near the train station on Friar Street. Nice food, a good ambience and decor, an extensive menu and the portions are big.

From what I gathered "the indian near the train station" was the only restaurant they had heard about, hence the request for recommendations. Which is what I gave. Why the anti-Inch House agenda anyway?

i've no agenda pro or anti any of them. just exasperated at how you didn't read the original post as so happens soooooooo often when people pose questions on boards.

if i'm thinking of buying a car, stick up a thread asking for recommendations stating that i've heard a vw passat is good, i'd expect people to suggest a toota avensis, ford mondeo etc given their cost. i wouldn't expect people to start suggesting a merc s class or a bmw 7 series. obviously they're good cars but not in the budget of a fella in the market for the passat.

if op stated that he was down with the wife looking to celebrate an anniversary and wanted the best, money no object i'd suggest inch house or chez hans.

i'd actually be curious to know what the op wants in terms of budget and occasion.

    How these things snowball..........:(

I did read the post. "Down in Thurles for work for the week and wondering if anybody can recommend some good restaurants ?". It doesn't say some cheap restaurants, or some expensive restaurants, or some value for money restaurants. I recommended a good restaurant. As far as I know you can get a 2 course dinner in Inch for €29 during the week, it's hardly in the "money no object" price bracket. As you pointed out yourself, the op never mentioned budget so you're just assuming they want cheap and cheerful. You're accusing me of not reading the post, while you're reading something that isn't there.

the Indian just near Lyons tyres is very good and the four seas or seasons I think it's called is by far the best Chinese imo.

you're not reading my post either:rolleyes: i wouldn't classify mitchell house as 'cheap and cheerful'. i gave hayes as a carvery option.......
both are actually in....thurles toounlike inch house which is in.......?

i'm sure seamus callinan doesn't play for sarsfields!

i'll have to venture into inch house if i'm ever up that direction. I'll ask for the casinoking discount for good measure:D
