First build for my little brother

Hi, my brother wants a gaming PC but is on a limited budget. I built my own rig in 2007 (still going strong!) but am a little out of touch with the latest components and what offers the best value and having had some great advice here in 2007 would like your up to date knowledge

1. What is your budget? €600

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [yes]

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Yes, I will be donating a BFG GTX 8800 GTS from my current rig

5. Do you need a monitor? no, going to use an old one and purchase a better one at a later date
5a. If yes, what size do you need. n/a

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [no]

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [yes]

8. How can you pay? I'm going to purchase the parts in the UK (online) and bring them home at christmas (driving) where he will build it under my watchful eye [he currently thinks I'm going to do it all for him :rolleyes:]

9. When are you purchasing? Before December 10th

Just to let you know, an 8800 GTS only equates to about a 7770, and given that you can pick those up for ~£90, it might be worth a look.

Edit: And oh dear, I've just realised your budget was in Euro. Apologies about that, will rectify it later if one of the lads hasn't sorted you out by then.

Hey Sere, cheers for the reply. Looks great, I reckon the graphics card I am giving him will keep him ticking over for a bit, I may remove the 1TB hard drive too and he can buy one later in the year, that will bring it into budget.

Bear in mind that you might want to look at a couple of other places. See for example, if Scan.co.uk has those parts any cheaper.
