Our van seems to be have had a roof dish at some stage, there is a coax and a booster thinghy in the tv press.
i would prefer an out door aerial, thanks in advance

It depends where you will be using it and what you want to look at.If you want to watch tv in Ireland any decent standard roof mounted aireal conected to a saorview box or tv should get you the rte,s and UK freeview channels if you get near the north,
If you want to have tv in europe or go the sky route you will need a dish,we use a macview crank up its a bit fiddly at first but once you get the hang of it you can have up and running in a few mins and because its a full sized dish it will work a bit further south than some of the smaller self finding dishes plus as its a crank up so low tech less to go wrong,we have had ours working in northern spain with my trusty Lidl 12v box
Just one thing to note if you go the dish route the talk among them what
know about theses things is that their may be change in the way satellite tv will be available to us in the further so if its going to be a long term investment it may be worth a bit research for further proofing

    "Finally got ourselves a tv".

If thats a new tv then its likely its a saorview ready tv which means you dont need a saorview box. Plenty of caravan aerial options out there from omindirectional to directional. Directional being the best for picture quality.

If you need satellite, then you could start off with a low budget set up, the likes of Maplins have a camping satellite kit in a briefcase for under €100 that has all you need to set yourself up with all the freeview channels. Of course if you need to have the latest & greatest, the sky's the limit. Auto tracking satellite domes and all that..

We have the maplins satellite kit and its great, only takes minutes to set up, but we rarely use it... (we just dont watch much telly when camping)
For terrestrial tv we use a laptop DVB-t receiver that has a dinky little telescopic antenna that plugs into the USB port on the lappy. Gets all the rte, tv3's etc... Dont use that much either. Only for regional weather & news...
