£589.80 is far from the cheapest way to get freesat + Saorview
Indeed - it's only really a viable option if you need a new TV as well.
also can you merge both EPG's / what PVR functionality does it have ?
Annoyingly, no. You have to press "Channel List->Antenna->[Freesat/Air]" to pick between them. The PVR is basic - you can set things to record, but you can't watch anything live at the same time (I don't know if you can watch something off HDMI/DLNA/SmartTV while it's recording but you certainly can't watch something on RTÉ at the same time as recording BBC, which is what I tried to do with it once).
IMHO the big difference between FTA satellite boxes is the functionality of the menu and it's usually annoying little things, - a classic example being the lack of a previous channel button on SKY

On Sky, Blue;Select brings you to the previous channel. It's two buttons instead of one, but it's not exactly the end of the world (and you can always get a programmable remote to do it for you). I'd agree about the generic FTA boxes - my main gripe with them is the lack of the 7-day guide.
