I'm fairly new, I joined because I met some Irish lifters over at Worlds in Bardejov. A small introduction.

I own PTC Frankston, a powerlifting gym I started in 2008 in my garage at home. I now have franchises all over Australia. We have 5 in 4 states.

We are tied in with GPC, as I am the President of GPC Australia.

In 2010 I started ProRawPowerlifting. I did away with age divisions and have only 4 weight classes, belt and wraps only, plus cash.

ProRawFour is happening on Saturday November the 10th, with $5000 in cash prizes plus another $2000 worth of prizes (equipment, protein)

We may have 2 boys go 900kg, one weighs 115kg and the other 130kg

Two 110kg lifters will go 800kg or very close, 2 in the 95kg class will go between 710kg and 730kg.

Odell Manuel will do 350/200/350 comfortably, he is an ex rugby league player (NRL)

Firas El Achkar will deadlift 340kg@110kg

    Matt Brunoli will deadlift 335kg@92kg

Nathan Jones will squat 345kg, bench 210kg and deadlift 345kg, at between 110kg and 115kg

Most of these will be going To Hungary for the GPC Worlds in 2013, I took 17 lifters this year, should be over 25 next year

Jackson got the highest teen total in Australian PL history too, which was nice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 42 PTC Frankston

    Yes he did, 787.5kg@113kg

The previous best was 770kg@103kg by Gregg Gordon, at his first ever raw comp at ProRawTwo.

Gregg will go close to 850kg@110kg at ProRawFive, 21yo

Australia is blessed for teens and juniors

    Who are you big guy?

  • Moderators Posts: 1,589 ✭✭✭Big_G

Well I should probably be called medium G now that I'm hangin around with powerlifters and strongmen! I play rugby union and Scott has been training me for about 6 months I think (time flies when you're having fun!). I've seen some pretty cool stuff, not least Eben's 350kg dead at the push/pull a few weeks agoand Ricky squatting 190 for 20 (I think he's going to go 200x20 this week). Scott's been gradually turning me into a powerlifter I think. It's been awesome, my PBs before going to PTC were 120kg squat, 100kg bench and 140kg deadlift for five reps. The first night I went, Scott put 187.5 on the bar and said deadlift that and I did - felt great. My PB's now are at 140, 125, 235. And that's mostly during the rugby season, which I'm pretty happy with. I also tore left glenoid labrum and so can't really get into a solid low bar squat position because it puts me in painful external rotation so I've been using SSB. I'm going to go for 160kg squat on the SSB soon.

All in all very happy, only wish I could stay for longer and see where I could take it! I'll have to find a good gym at home when I go. Just started to learn the power clean, fun times.

Also wish I could have learned this stuff at 21 instead of 31, who knows what level I could have played at. They should teach strength training in phys ed instead of things like badminton and golf. Far more useful. Ah well still plenty of time to get strong anyway, even if I might not be playing rugby forever.

    Long story short, thanks PTC.

Glad you enjoyed PTC. Five years ago it was me in my 2 car garage, now there are 5 branches in Australia, with 2 more planned in the next 6 months.

I'm still waiting for someone overseas to contact me about opening one.

There will be a stack of us in Hungary in September, would be good to catch up with fellow board members
