    Is the price of electricity during the day the same as at night? I alwasy thought there was a difference because on my bills it has always shown power used during the day and night seperately

    Hi skeptik,

    If you are on a Nightsaver tariff (which you would be, if on your bill the units are divided between day and night) the cheaper night-rate comes into effect within the hours 12am to 9am in summertime, and 11pm to 8am in wintertime (we're now in the 'wintertime' hours).

    NightSaver offers a reduced night time price offering of approximately 50% versus the day price. This price plan is only beneficial to customers who use at least 22% of total electricity usage within the NightSaver night time hours where you have an average annual electricity usage of 5,300kWhs (this is because, compared to the 24hr tariff, the day unit price and standing charge is higher).

    Customers who are not currently on a NightSaver price plan and wish to avail of it can contact our sales team directly on 1850 30 50 90, or send us a PM.

    grand. do I need to have a special meter for that?

    If a customer has a rotating-disc meter with only one reading shown on it, they would need to have this meter replaced to accommodate the Nightsaver tariff. See here for more info on the different types of residential electricity meters and how to read/operate them.

    In either of the above cases, the Nightsaver is free to install, but reverting to a 24hr tariff isn't (see here for the current charge).
