What are you suggesting? I think that when I win you should get "TRR 4ever" tattooed on your backside because basically you will be my beitch :)

There's only 2 things it is acceptable for men to bet: money and beer.

In this case, I think beer is the right bet. Lite beer in your case I suppose.

Beer it is so. Will make a nice aperitif before I down my bottle of victory champagne.

Before a bet is made though we need to finalise the races and terms of competition of the trilogy. PM me the dates you are home again and I'll find suitable races. Are we agreed there should be a time bonus for the winner of the beer mile?

This is all getting reminiscent of Ovett and Coe*. Wonder if they ever did a beer mile?

    * If Ovett and Coe had let themselves go, and were significantly slower and a little pudgier around the middle.

I assume this is going to be televised on Sky or something?

    HD and in 3D

Obviously I am the sensible Coe character, my organisation of the trilogy is reminiscent of Coe's organisation of the Olympics, while MFF's exile to Australia is similar to that looper Ovett.

That's harsh on MFF but you speak the truth.

After the watershed, there could be violence.

3D??! You need a big tv to fit me on it in 3D.

Probably have to get the I-max.

this thread has made a LOL a few times now. Im starting to get into this.

My money is on MFF. Because he is hungrier :)

*and because he is faster than me over the marathon while carrying the equivalent of a small child extra in weight.

For a smart man that's a stupid bet ;) I was talking to a couple of people the weekend about this head to head and nobody thinks I'll win. Have things got that bad? Where did it all go wrong? I'm the underdog in a race with a fat has been. We need to get brianderunner in here to open a book.

    Bastards

As an odds compiler by profession, I probably qualify to price the book.

It will all come down to the beer mile really. Unless someone gets injured and misses a tonne of training (or I re-discover KFC and give up training) then there should not be much between us either way over 10km.

With that in mind, I reckon you are favorite for the trilogy mainly because you are from Tallaght and have been drinking cans in fields while running from the Gardai since the 60's.

I have a poor record in the beer mile and no confidence in it. Put bluntly, burping is the key to a beer mile. The drinking is easy but you are screwed if you cannot get rid of the excess gas. If the race was 'drink 6 pints of Guinness in an hour and then run a mile', I would be one of the best in the world.

So when is this beer mile?

+1 I've never done a beer mile and I can't see myself being very good at it but sure that's half the fun
So when is this beer mile?

around the middle of April. As soon as MFF gets his finger out of his fat arse and sends me concrete dates regards his inglorious homecoming I'll let you know. We will have to check out to see if there is an "official" Irish national record for the beer mile :)

I'd definitely love to go have a go at a beer mile, but the other two are a bit out of my range. A 5k maybe, but in April, juts before track season... don't think so somehow.

Also, I haven't had time to aquire a 'nemesis' on Boards yet.

1k race on the track prior to the beer mile?

1k race on the track prior to the beer mile?

    It's possible!
