What country should you set your novel in?

    Just wondering if setting my plot in say SanFran would be okay? I just like the place, or should I set it in my home like ireland??

    I have read books and seen films and television programmes set in Ireland that were written or created by people who are not Irish. That includes some people who resided here for a time, sometimes months.

    I cannot think of any that came across as authentic -- too many dud notes.
